Child travel with OCI on old Canadian passport

cdn_dude: We do it ALL the time - never had an issue. Do not bother about getting a new OCI booklet just to have a new passport number. Try minimizing your number of interactions with the Indian Consulate.
Full House: I found a good link for you to browse and ask them for details. FH. LINK - xxxx EDIT.: Bureau of Immigration ( India ) Guidelines regarding OCI Card holders. 1. ...
konax: Hi, Can someone with actual experience or confirmed knowledge please let me know if my 8-year old daughter would be able to travel with her existing OCI booklet that has her old Canadian passport number?

Money transfer to India

musicgold: Remitly is much better than ICICI and SBI. LINK
Ash20: If you need INR in India (not CAD/USD for FCNR) then I will suggest you to convert CAD to INR here in Canada with any Indo-Canadian Bank (ICICI/SBI). If amount is larger than 10K then you can negotiate the rates with them (around 25-50 paisa/$). You will get better exchange rates here in Canada. More than likely banks won't charge you any transfer fees too (or may like $10). You will know what you will get in INR in advance.
ashedfc: Risk is for example - if you use Money2india.com, then you get the exchange rate of 5th day of transferring the funds, which can be very different then the actual day of the transfer. & Money2india.com is a legit option..
high vision: What is the risk in transferring funds? They will give the rate and I will transfer it. What I would like to know is getting a better rate. I know everyone will charge a bit of charges to transfer funds. That's why I wrote "best legit option" as I do not want to use hawala options.

Compare Money Transfer Services to India

musicgold: I prefer Remitly over ICICI and SBI any day. LINK
adamthorat: All of them give you an indicative rate. The final rate when its actually posted is always different. Some charge fees for transfer , some don't . If they don't charge a fee they make up for it in the exchange rate. If its not a big amount usually it doesn't make a big difference a few pennies
Full House: - This week end, being a long one, did not have ample time at my disposal to give you a current list. I am on my way out through the door as I drop this to you. Money transfer to India

musicgold: Remitly is my favorite. LINK
chandresh: When you say current rate - what exactly do you mean? Is it RBI rate or something else. IMO, if the interbank rate is 51.26 and you get 51.18, it is a great rate. But I would like to know what exactly does the current rate mean?
zindabad: Check PM
tamilkuravan: Sir, Hawala is the best to pay. Next will come Western union. If you send$ 500 or $ 1000 per time, then you need not provide proof of anything. Try to send it in multiples of $ 500 or $ 1000. Try different stores at different time. I once received black money payment for a property that I sold.
mrpandya: Hi, Thanks HF,GlobalIndian,RAJCANADA I am going to invest all money to buy a house in india, immediately, As u know ,in india when u buy a house u need to pay some white money for legal documents and remaining amount pay as a black money. mkannuri: I can help if some one is sending money to india as i am in the process of exchanging INR to CAD myself. PM me with the details
Full House: What I will be providing you here is not an INSTANT Quote. I am giving you what I am seeing NOW. Which is 0.12 or 12np more. Which means that you lose. The market is in a constant state of flux and you have to go by what the person who exchanges there pays you for a Canadian Dollar. I would say that it is in the ball park.
Many: I have to pay someone in India INR equal to CAD 500. One site now shows 1CAD=INR 51.418 says mid-market rate. question: is this the rate I should be paying the person in India ( from my NRO account perhaps Please advise

How do you send money to India?

musicgold: Remitly gives a better rate than ICICI and SBI. LINK
pendse: Transwerwise, Remitly , Xoom , ICICI Money 2 India , SBI NRI remittances are one of the more popular ones.
pendse: In India you can get about 8 % interest on a Fixed Deposit . FD is called GIC in Canada. You will be lucky to get even 2 % on a 1 year GIC in Canada. The FD can pay monthly, quarterly or yearly interest. Someone I know sends money to his parents for monthly expenses. What he has done is he transferred one lump sum amount to India when the exchange rate was good.
pendse: TransferWise is a good option. LINK At the end of the day they are all pretty much the same. So go for one which has the best exchange rate and minimum fees and convenience. Try to stick with the big companies for security & safety reasons. Some will advertise a good exchange

Remitly offers far better exchange rate than ICICI and SBI

musicgold: Hi, I just wanted to narrate my recent experience of transferring money to India and how dealing with Remitly was a breath of fresh air as compared to ICICI Bank Canada. ICICI locks your account if you don't login for 3 months and it can be reactivated only by calling them. They walk you through a process and tell you that it will be active in 30 minutes. So inconvenient! Moreover their call center agents are so unprofessional. When I asked a Toronto agent to connect me to his manager, he played a joke on me by transferring me to his female colleague and she kept telling me that she was not able to hear me. I was so upset, I started looking at alternatives. SBI is no better alternative either and needed an account with them. Then I found Remitly.com. The process was so smooth that within 10 minutes I finished the transfer; I got an exchange rate two rupees higher than what ICICI and SBI were offering ; I didn't have to open an account; and got prompt follow up service.
