"Prevention is Better than the Cure"

Did you know…

“Canadians of South Asian origins have the highest rates of death from heart disease”

“South Asian men suffer more urinary problems than average men but are less likely to seek help”

“South Asian immigrant women were found to have minimal knowledge of breast cancer and did not engage in breast cancer detection practices”
It is hard for recent immigrants to proactively research and acknowledge themselves about health risks due to our cultural and language barrier. Accordingly, Hindu Mandir & Cultural Centre and its Atmiya Youth Group would like to invite you to the first annual South Asian Health Day on SUNDAY MARCH 29th from 10:30am – 1pm. Our goal is to promote and raise awareness of health-related issues surrounding the South Asian communities.

The event will have various speakers who will talk about current health issues. Followed by a question-answer session where individuals can have a one-on-one session with experts. We will also have various booths setup up where people can walk around and gather information or ask any questions they may have.

Topics and Participants thus far are:
- Canadian Diabetes Society.
- Heart & Stroke Foundation
- Canadian Cancer Society
- Region of Peel Public Health
- South Asian Healthy Eating/Nutritionist
- Free Diabetes & Blood Pressure Testing
- Eye Health
- Dental Health
- Toronto Vegetarian Association
- Yoga Health
- and more...

Thank You,
Atmiya Youth Group
