Integrated. Active. United.
This year's all-day conference will take place on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at OISE auditorium at the University of Toronto. The participants will be divided into two streams, depending on their age groups. The first stream will consist of high school students from ages 14-17. The university/young professional participants will make-up the second stream. The speakers and workshops for each stream will vary to account for the different age groups and interests.

Continuing from last year, we would like to provide the participants with breakfast, lunch and dinner. The evening event will include dinner and a variety of informal entertainment acts including musical and dance performances. It will also provide an opportunity for the participants to network and mingle.

The aim of the HYC is to enhance the knowledge of youth with respect to the customs, traditions, and history of Hinduism. Today's Hindu youth have unique questions and opinions about Hinduism, and we believe that a forum that is designed specifically for them will encourage interest in our culture, spark debate and engage them in discussions about the areas of our religion that are important to them. With a speaker series, workshops, debates and social activities, this conference will aspire to answer some commonly held questions and encourage them to further their knowledge about Hinduism.

This theme of this year's Conference is "Integrated. Active. United.". The workshops and speakers will focus on such topics as "Religion vs. Spirituality", the "Role of Hinduism in Modern Western Societies" and "How Today's Youth Can Get Involved". Our goal is to not only educate participants, but to further their interest through thought-provoking subjects that will leave them motivated to learn more.

Last year, the event was successfully held at the Swami Narayan Mandir in Etobicoke. With over 300 youth participants, the gathering was a true celebration of Hinduism. We hope to build on that success this year, and establish the HYC as an annual event in Toronto. We look forward to developing partnerships with businesses and individuals within the Hindu community as we expand and develop this Conference each year.
