I am writing this on behalf a family that I know for many years. This family, from India has been in Canada for considerable time, and are expert cooks. They launched a catering service, which is doing well.
They now want to open a 100 % Vegetarian South Indian restaurant, in Mississauga. This Restaurant will serve food from all four southern states. I am keen about investing in this project.
All of us are independently doing our SWOT analysis about the project. We know that a large number of Canadian desis visit Indian restaurants often. Given this, I would appreciate your views/opinion and input on the following areas.
1) Is there room for another South Indian vegetarian restaurant in Mississauga?
2) In terms of seats, what would be the ideal size, if the location is good?
3) If launched in the next 2 months, how would the demand be, given that fall will be here soon? (followed by winter)
or is Jan/Feb a good time for a launch?
4) If we add a delivery to the usual dine-in/takeout service, would that be an added advantage? (or would that shrink our bottom line?)
5) Is there any other USP that would help this venture succeed?
6) Other things being equal, what could be the break even point?( I know this is hard to answer).
I am seeking answers because I can get unbiased opinions from disinterested parties.

Hi Quis...
I dunno abt the restaurant business but, as a student I always wished there was some sort of eatout location....
You should try and make it exclusively a take out joint....that way you can save on space. Delivery can then be made a part of ur business. It wont hurt ur bottom line.
I am always disappointed by the spices put in the curries by traditional restaurants in TO. YOu can place special emphasis on that.

1. There is definitely room for another South Indian veggie hotel
2. Even if there is no "room" , there is always place for a new entrant who provides , quality and reasonalble prices on a consistent basis.
3. There is more"room" because the famous south indian hotel in mississauga is charging very high prices for canteen type atmosphere and service.
So if you are offering the same foos, you can still find "room" by keeping the prices reasonalble and the quality consistent .
