I feel sorry for the person who lost his vehicle for a little greed on his part. My sympathy is with this guy.

In India, many people treat credit card spending as free-money (mere ko koi chu nahi sakta - "no one can touch me" attitude). The Banks do not have mechanisms similar to Canada (for example) to catch the defaulters.

If you were a bank manager, how would you recover the money even after sending a few letters?

I think only this system will work in India as there is no Social Insurance number or credit history that will make these guys more responsible. I have met a lot of guys in India who just don't care abt repaying credit cards or bank loans as they tend to take everything for granted.

Actually Citibank started this trend of sending Goondas home to collect money. On a seperate note , why not the Banks qualify the customers before issuing these cards? But then Banks are desperate for business and that too when they enter a new,big market like India they want to show more numbers and impress their big bosses sitting here !!!!
