hi CD's

What are people's thoughts about a childfree lifestyle?

I ask this question based on another thread about \\\\'second child\\\\'..just got me thinking. I know some couples that have sent their children back to India to be raised by extended family so they could work 24/7 out here. My thoughts are ..in this situation..why have children at all? There are many child free couples in North america.

Im on the fence myself..at age 30.

please dont flame me...im only trying to start a discussion :)
thanks

It is upto an individual whether he wants to have no kids or 1 or 2 or more.

I know of North American couples who have 3 or more kids. One of the parents might be different though, he he ! But some people think that they are doing a service to their country by having more kids since countries like Canada, Australia need more population. In Australia, cricketers like Steve Waugh, etc. have gone on record regarding this.

I believe one goes against the basic nature of mankind by not having kids. They are needed for the survival of mankind. Ofcourse, the pleasures of bringing up kids are also great. It is very difficult also.

Please prepare yourself mentally before deciding to go for a child. If you are not able to devote proper time for your kids, then it is a disservice.

Rgds.

Rajan.

In India there is a concept called \"Pitra Rin\" or \"Debt of your parents/ancestors\".

When you beget a child, rear him/her with love and affection, impart him/her high values and bring him/her up as a responsible citizen you repay your debt to your parents/ancestors.

I somehow like to believe in this larger purpose which, to a great extent, provides meaning to your life.

Though it is \"tears and laughter\" but it is worth it.

:)

While I agree that it may be the basic nature of humans to have children, that is largely the reason we have 6 billion people consuming resources and wiping out other species.

That said, having one child or five does not make a huge difference in terms of lifestyle; it will change the moment you decide to become a parent. Economically, of course it is another story... :D

Thanks for the posts and thoughts...

financially speaking..children can be a poor investment :D
They are supposed to cost over $300,000 (till age 18).. a person who chooses a dog will only pay $5000 over its lifetime !

I also agree with the environmental perspective...the earth is very over populated and resources are running out.

Wouldnt it be better to adopt a child already in the world?

Again ..let me re-iterate..im undecided..im not trying to say *having* kids is bad..im trying to generate a discussion..to help me in my own decision making processes!!

Thanks..

Adoption is the greatest service to mankind, if you can do it while being fair to the child. I had thought about it quite a few times, but did not have the courage to take the plunge.

   to all those you have adopted and lived happily ever after.

All the best.
