This is so True ... We talked & sent emails to Authorities but could not get Exception for Daughter who loast a Year for 1 Day (34 mins !!!). Authorities have to draw a line and for us the line is lil too close.

OMG... 34 mins.. now that is close. Our daughter was 2 days and 7 minutes into the new year.

A montesoori school is a school unlike a day care. The kids learn to read, write, etc. I'll give you details for the one my child goes to, but I'm sure others will be similar.

Kids are taught Maths, Science, English, History, Geography and everything else that would be taught in a regular school. The topic is slowly introduced to the child so as not to develop any resistance. They do not have fixed classes, any child can do anything. But the teacher keeps an eye on what the child does. Say for example, the child likes to work on the beads (Maths) al the time, the teacher will move the child to another area/topic.

All Montessori Schools teachers have to be certified by Association Montessori Internationale.

Hope that helps.

I sent my son to the YMCA program - until he started on the regular public school. It was quiet decent. They call it day care, but they teach rhymes etc. Bit on the costlier side though... 40-50 per day depending on age...

Based on many articles I read about private day cares, you may want to do some good research before choosing one. Many have sub-standard care or no -care at all. And some are unhygenic.

Hello All,

This is an year old thread, I did this same exercise of visiting all day cares and one montessori school (the only one clsoe to my home) I found is charging $ 1000 a month.

I did not like the government day cares at all. We might get subsidy ( now I heard the rules have changed, they do not go by income but by income less expense)...we might get subsidy but i wud not want my child to go there. It is quite possible that those I visited were not good, and this may not be a generalisation.

on the other hand, montessori is v expensive ...it si like paying one full mortgage.....
and my other concern is we may not be able to pick up at 6 ...and it is $ 1 / min late charge and cant afford to pay that often.

I am also trying to look for montessori close to work, but i am not sure if it will be feasible with a child in bus at rush hour.

checked the link in this thread of montessori, none close to my place.

:(
