I am planning to do MBA from Canada. I have shortlisted IVEY, ROTMAN, YORK AND MCGILL. cud anyone of be some help in telling about the chances of getting placement after passing from these univ? moreover is it worth spending 40000 to 60000 can$ on these courses?
Depending on how the job market is when you graduate, an MBA could be worthwhile. It will be of greater value if you don't have a Canadian degree.
Studying here will definitely improve your analytical and communication skills, highly valued here. However, there is no guarantee that you will find a job. If you are concerned about finding a job as soon as you graduate, try looking for a school that has a co-op program (a program that has a work component in it). Companies involved in this program generally prefer to hire from the school.
Also, have a look at the placement centres of these schools. Some schools have great partnerships with large banks and other companies. This will give you the all important contact that you need to get your foot into the door.
Thanx cal. i had got myself enrolled in a college in canada (not a univ) but was told that if u really want a degree then you should opt for a university. moreover if u could help me by telling if i get into Mc Gill and since its in Qubec, does it reduce chances of getting employment. Is it worth to do a degree from a college in toronto rather than from a univ in qubec. as far as i know the univ is among the top 50 in the world.
McGill is an excellent University. However, since you are so concerned about finding a job, perhaps you can go and visit the University's placement centre.
And there is no comparison between college and University here. For technical courses, college is good but for arts and social sciences, a university degree is what will get you a job.
Best of Luck
Hey Simz,
I am doing my MBA here in Vancouver and I can understand your situation. Tella what, if you are really looking for a program that will get you a job , then try only for Rotman (U of Toronto), Schullich (York U) and Richard Ivey (U of western ontario). No other program, no matter what they boast of, has a 100% probability of getting a job.
My advice: if you have 40,000 to 60,000 bucks to blow, why on earth are you coming to Canada, there are so many good MBA programs in US, Europe and even in Asia.
Anyway, it's your future and you should decide what to do.
Good luck
Manish.

Got around 8 plus years experience and currently in Toronto working for a reputed firm. what would your suggestion be for me to do my MBA? Is Canada a good place ? If not then what are all the good B-Schools in US, Europe and Asia? What should i be budgeting if i have to step out to do a MBA?
