If any of you has a bad experience with a vendor or service provider PLEASE spare a minute or two to post the details on this forum. This will help other CDs avoid that particular vendor.

Message to moderators: Can we create a new category 'Blacklist' so that these messages can be categorized?

Two questions.

First, Can you legally do this? Can a vendor who may frequent this site as a member or guest sue for Defamation and Libel?

Secondly, I think that could possibly make the tone of this site more negative and I for one would like to avoid this. This site is a huge information resource for people. I learn a lot from this site and wouldnt it be more productive to discuss bad experiences and maybe promote solutions and options?

Thanks

I agree with Morn rain...though I am having troubles with my PM...I fully realize that this site is meant for other discussions and having or nor having PM's really does not matter...great site overall....keeps the Desis occupied and the debate is always healthy

i personally wouldn't vote for the idea of blacklisting anyone. every one's free to express their thoughts, though we can introduce blocking for PMs, and i dont know if we already have that feature as i juz got to know that we have a PM feature initially :p .....we can avoid reading articles, which dont suit our taste. as there's no said rule for someone to be blacklisted, for others we might be bad with our opinions and mails and some are irritating to us.... the art is to live together and share the best you can offer, if u dont like what someone else's offering, smile and sit back.

I think the original poster meant to blacklist services and businesses and write their names ON this site..rather than blacklist parts of this site or members.

correct?

yup. i agree but i was just adding a after thought :h as in am getting mails regd business propositions to my original email address submitted here, dont understand how any one is allowed to do it, but never the less u're informed about all whats happening. so am voting for the idea that let info be free flow :)

There is nothing illegal about that..Canada still supports free speech. Defamation and libel only occur when the statement made is false.

"I think that could possibly make the tone of this site more negative and I for one would like to avoid this"

I disagree. Voicing opinions does not make a site negative. We already have many posts which complain about various issues. What we lack is a means of WARNING others to avoid the pitfalls that we experienced. Example: The newcomer to Canada rents an apartment which he later finds to be poorly maintained and in a bad neighborhood. Now he is locked into a 1 year lease. Won't he appreciate us for warning him before he signs the lease? Will warning others about the apartment make the site more negative? Think about it...
