General Sexual Assault Statistics

51% of all Canadian women have experienced at least one incident of sexual or physical violence. Close to 60% of these women have survived more than one incident of violence. (Statistics Canada, 1993, "Violence Against Women Survey", The Daily, 18 November, p. 1, 3)

62% of the victims who reported being sexually assaulted in 1998 were under the age of 18. (Statistics Canada, Juristat, Vol. 19, No. 9)

In 2000, women made up the vast majority of victims of sexual assault (86%) and other types of sexual offences (78%). (Statistics Canada, 2001, Family Violence in Canada: A Statistical Profile, 2001)

80% of sexual assaults occur at home; 49% in broad daylight. (Sexual Assault Care Centre, 1999, Myths and

TK Says:
Statistics about sexual assaults in Canada are too much as you can see in the above link. By common sense, India WILL NOT have this high % of crime/sexual assault.
This is what happens in India :A large study in India found that 43.5 percent of women reported that they were psychologically abused by their partners, and 40.3 percent reported that they were physically abused. Fifty percent of women who were physically abused reported violence during pregnancy.6

Side note : Alexm -> no one is telling that india has world class cities but what I am telling is that it is not the kind of Dungeon that you guys tell it is . Indians can still lead a very high quality of life in these indian cities with all modern facilities such as running water, good sanitation, clean floors etc....

ptm,

Good to see you writing after a long time.

Thanks for your advise. I still feel that I was leading a better life in terms of career & social life in India. I have been trying hard to get a better job here but did not get any interviews here except for jobs similar to what I have been doing & the job offers that I got were similar pay as well. All the money that I brought for settlement was already spent so upgrading further by studying was not possible.

I guess we were also missing the disorder of India, ;)

As I had mentioned earlier, my brother expired last year & my parents were alone there which is also a major factor in my decision.

I was earning about 20 K in 2000 when I had left my job & started my business in India. Since I have my own house in India, expenses are bound to be less as you have said.

Ofcourse it will be difficult to start life all over again but since I have been here one & half years here in Canada & we did not feel that we would be able to survive another one & half year in Canada for getting the citizenship which except for kids wanting to come to Canada for studies when they grow up, doesn't seem to be of much value to me. I do not think I can provide a good quality of life to my kids if I earn around $1500 per month before tax in Canada.

We tried a lot to get a decent job for my wife but except for Tim Hortons she did not get any job even in data-entry, call-centre even though her communication skills are good.

Thanks, tamilkuravan for your support.

We feel that we will be more happy in India even if we were earning more than $5000 in Canada.

Thanks & rgds.

Rajan,

Good luck with your decision.

I think one should be happy wherever they choose to be - India, Canada or elsewhere.

....if you make good money.

If you make good money in India, you can cover up most of deficiencies in the infrastructure.

If you make good money in India and are happy with it, why immigrate to Canada, start you career again and go through all the trauma.

Canada, unfortunately, does not have enough jobs for immigrants to match their skills.

Quality of life...I am reasonably well being in IT but boatloads of $$ is not my end goal.

But yes, everyone has their own aspirations.

MR,
Thanks for your mail.
Yes. The work that i do for my office can be done at home too but my boss would not allow me to work from home. He thinks that people will play the fool if working from home. Even at office , he comes around once an hour to show that he is still in charge at the office.
TK
On a sidenote :
MY boss wants me and some others to be at the office 7 days a week but i donot work my full potential and he canot find out that. He just needs to see our face there. He is not concerned about if we work or we play the fool.

Is it legal for your boss to expect you to work 7 days a week? Do you get days off?

I dont understand why you have a problem with canada seeing as you have a professional position.
