friends,

currently indian governement unveiled dual citizenship for indians, which is correct step after lots of wait, But i have found that those who lives in USA has to pay only 275 $ (US) while In canada we have to pay 421$ Canadian,Looking current exchange ratio it looks we have to pay 70$ more for same service. We have to raise this question with GOI and Indian high commision. I hope we will raise enough awareness for this differnce .:(

Absolutely. I sent a letter to Consulate General of India in Toronto regarding the fee difference. More letters and awareness, the better!

Hello guys!
I became a Canadian citizen last week. Now what do i do with the indian passport. The indian passport says that i will have to surrender my passport to the nearest indian mission once i acquire a foreign citizenship but i donot want to spend my time to go to the indian mission and hand it over. I will be applying for my canadian passport in 2 or 3 weeks and then for PIO(or)OCI , after 2 or 3 months. Can i surrender my indian passport then.
Your experiences solicited.

TK,
IMO hold on to your cancelled Indian passport because that is the only identification you have of being an Indian origin. Say in future your kid need to prove that they are Indian this piece of identification will work wonders. You never know, time may come that you have to prove your Indian identification.......:)

When we got our citizenship a few years ago, we were not asked to surrender the passport, but at the same time you're not allowed to use the Indian passport anymore. When you apply for an Indian visa, at that time the Indian Consulate will stamp the Indian passport as 'Cancelled' or something.

ok i took my oath last week. but not applied for canadian citizenship yet. also i am given to understand that since as indian accepts dual citizenship, we can contineu using both canadian/india passports. how far this is true don't know.

HEllo!
India does NOT offer dual citizenship. It only offers Overseas Citizenship of India or PIO card. SO once you take the Oath, your indian passport becomes null and void. Get a Canadian passport and apply for a visa, pio card or OCI if you want to visit India.
