But somehow we are used to a firm mattress, usually in India we all are used to a firm one and so I am noto comfortable sleeping in this one. I think I am developing a back problem because of this.. Can some tell me would a mattress with springs be good or one with foam and coir or are there any available with our Indian type cotton (rui)?
Thank you for your responses.

In my case over weight beyond a certain limit is the main reason for back ache. Though there was a problem with the mattresses, the real problem is inherent (overweight) with me.
This may not be applicable to all. But worth trying .

I use to do lots of work out ( right now, i m preagant, so cant do that much)..but my expreince was this.
I was still getting back-pain working in IT field. I use to play squash.. 1 hour work out.. yoga a lot..
Yes, sure. it will heal your pain.and you dont have to complain anymore. My back was really feeling ok..so thats the true comment.
Although, I still had problem sleeping on mattress. Means, whatever I use to do...as soon as I sleep on matterss comes back. so dont know why?
And then I use to waste my another 2-3 days just in pain, so then decided no more try.
we bought hard futon type bed with futon gadda.. and on tht i can sleep for hours...
but in night best is sleeping on floor by put some quilt .. u never get back pain again with that.
Also, i have converted all my furniture in the house like siting position.. divankhana..dinning table..is like japaness..so when you sit on floor..with our indian way.it relax your bak.and muscles..like in yoga.. so all this have effected a lot..
i dont requried to spend that much time just doing yoga.. siting on floor and eating is altast 2% covers of it..
try tht.
will you believe it ---- I went to lease an Apartment today and the current occupant has a treadmill besides his bed ... I m sure others are also trying the workout cure .....
Reminds me of the proverbial king and woodcutter s story where the king is finding it hard to get good sleep and the wood cutter advises him hard work....

We've got all sorts of advice...from Nasa engineered mattresses to no-mattress mattresses .
Another cause of back aches...bad footwear...apart from posture(which someone already touched on).

Things were much simpler in India as far as beds were concerned .... a wooden frame having a plywood or hardboard top support on which you could either put mattress (gadda in winters) or 'durrie' in summers . I became familiar with box springs here .
I am wondering whether the following combination would be better and simpler than a box spring :
On the frame put a ply wood / or plywood sheets after putting a rod in the middle of the frame and then topping it with a mattress - I prefer a firm one or even a good quality foam .... this would be firm enough to provide a back ache free sleep and yet simple enough ............... has anyonw tried this ??

Moving ahead with my findings , I can avoid that juggling act mentioned in my last post by buying a platform bed which is similar to a wooden bed as we get in India .
By putting a foam mattress on top of that (memory or the firm one) you have something similar to what we use in India and as per my opinion that beats a box spring - mattress combo...... Lying on a memory foam mattress is different !!! - But note memory foams need hard suface - using a soft surface like a used mattress / box spring defeats the purpose .....
Is this horse beaten down or someone wishes to add more
