The concept of Aryan Invasion has been introduced by the British who rewrote our history. If you read both my earlier leads(incidentally these leads have been there in CD for a very long time) you would find evidence that the aryan invasion never happened.
I have been reading through many of your threads in this CD. Many are very controversial and hot. I would like to congratulate at the outset for treading on these challenging topics. At the same time I would like contributions to come from the head and not from the heart.
I just saw a sticker on a car parked outside a big factory this afternoon, which said OM! Proud to be a Hindu - The worlds oldest religion !
I was really proud of that sticker and this Toronto, can you think of somebody putting up such a sticker in India!
Aryan Invasion theory was put up by vested interest, but it is very beautifully used in India even now. For eg: When a noted actress Suhasini defended her colleague Khusboo in a controversy on \\\"Safe Sex\\\", she was asked to go back to Khyber and Golan passes where she came from. This is in 2005. Actually those passes are now in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and they are asking a Hindu to go back there !.The Kanchi Shankaracharya who is like the Pope for the Hindus is running from Jail/Court to face his case in his own land, and the case foisted by people from his own religion, who want to win the so called Minority vote. Did you see any back lash when he was arrested?, Did you read about the protests which were done when Bush visited India in New Delhi and U.P.What has happened in Varanasi now? Isn't Advani right in pointing out the problem ? , While he himself has to recant his words in Pakistan so that he can be seen as a Prime Minister candidate in India.
Hinduism is not a religion, BUT a way of life. I know many of my friends who were not hindus used to go temples with me and were not discriminated. I used to be the captain of a cricket team for a famous school in Bangalore. Former captain of Karnataka Jeswanth was a player under me. When we used to have a game, we used to a special mass we were all invited to the church, but the holy bread was given only to Catholics. We never minded it and we used to play as a team. In chennai St.Thomas one of the first apostles was supposed to have landed 2000 years ago and his church is still there. I have studied in Christian colleges through out and it is a famous college in Chennai, and the current Finance Minister is also from that college. There was no discrimination in there until I left. They get funding from foreign sources for running these colleges and other institutions. The christian religion has helped us to shape our educational system in India and has produced most of our prominent leaders, scholars and scientist in all major cities of India. We have never had to face such problems from Christianity in India. This is because they changed their practises to suit the local region. In tamil nadu mass is offered in tamil. Many of the customs like lighting a candle or offering flowers have been converted to the local customs.I personally have attended many Bible Study groups in USA while I was a student. Nobody tried to make fun of my religion or forced me to change my religion. I'm trying to learn about Judaism through Kaballah and thanks to our fellow Desi \\\"Pink Panther\\\" I've already had my first meeting with the Kaballah center in Toronto this week.
Please note Hinduism is the oldest religion in the world. It has had enough of its blood shed in its earlier stages. It had to fight against off shoots like Buddhism, Jainism and many others. But is has mellowed down and now a way of life and not a religion.
The same applies to christianity. It is 2000 Years old and it has had enough of its blood shed if you look at the British history. It has come of out its religion phase and slowly becoming a way of life. The other religions are new. They have to go through their turbulent faith. It will have its own divisions. Later in history you will find people of the same faith will start questioning it. It is like finding a young kid with a MBA joining a age old company with seasoned professionals in it. The kid will throw his tantrums around, while the older guys will sit quiet and let the kid find his own end. I have seen this happen to a couple of kids in earlier companies of mine.
The best method is IGNORANCE. The second thing is get our facts and figures right and answer back concisely. We should hit back with the head and not with the heart. If you happen to see a movie called \\\"Colors\\\" you find Robert Duvall doing that to Sean Penn who is a rookie cop.
If you look at the movie called Rang De Basanti you would find that the movie director starts his movie with a sloka, and at the end when he wants to hit out he would find a villian in a Hindu Party(read RSS/BJP).
The problem lies with in us. We Hindus are a divided lot. Until we unify all the rants would mean nothing. How many of us go to temples in Canada. Look at other religions you would find how their children are made to go to prayers on Fridays and Week ends.
If any body wants to learn Hinduism, he or she should read Bhagvad Gita. This books does not talk about religion. It talks about everything under the sun. For a management expert it talks about strategy, take over and many other management concepts. For others it talks about life, rules of life and various other issues. If somebody cannot read Bhagavad Gita then you could read a modern translation named \\\"A Brief History of Time-From the Big Bang to Black Holes\\\" by Stepen Hawking with introduction by Carl Sagan(whom I was lucky to meet before his death while I was at Cornell). It talks about the big bang and it the sound it produced and this is nothing but the word OM!. The Omkara Sabdh is nothing but big bang. We all came out big bang. If you study Hinduism the only god we have is OM !All the other gods were all added onto to layman to understand the concepts/rules easier. Yes we pray to P and the V. Can human kind be created any other way! Most of the stuff in Hinduism is always in fine print not in the head lines. We should read the fine print and decipher the knowledge and not to get stuck with the headlines.
Hence please respond with your head like Babail and do not loose heart. Truth will Prevail !
Good Luck @ God Bless !

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

I try to tread carefully on matters of religion because its very personal however I have questions:
1) what do you feel constitutes a religion as opposed to 'way of life'?
2) Why did Hinduism have to 'fight' offshoots (ie/ to hold its own identity as a religion?)
Is it also arguable that religions can be a "way of life" for the people that practice them..therefore what separates hinduism from other faiths?
For example - a person who is sikh may recite prayers daily....wear the 5 ks etc. This is their 'way of life', and also their religion.
Thanks.
