The title of this should actually be ->
Why are Desi's like this ?
An explanation-> one of my desi friends had bought a Rice cooker for $9 at a very famous retail store. It got burnt out after a year. So what this desi did was throw away the receipt (since they had just a 90 day return policy) and went to the return counter and returned it for a new rice cooker. Actually , the CS dept. did not want to accpet it b'cos he did not take the spoon and the measuring cup that came with it but he made scene and returned it. Why are Desi's like this? Could it be b'cos Canada brought them with dreams and dumped them or was their mentality like this? Would they have done the same thing elsewhere in the world and mostly in India? what do you guys think?
TK

Sidenote : This individual's wife works in the same retail store at the merchandise return counter and she has before told us of all possible ways how people try to cheat the retailer. There have been cases in which the person Picks good from the street and then cashes them for the retailers cash card at the return counter. Also, it seems now that due to increasing fraud like this , this famous retailer takes the ID. of all the persons returning goods without receipt and you are allowed only 3 returns without receipts in your life time. So this individual advised me that if you wanted to exchange without recipts , to accumulate all the broken goods and to return them to this retailed at one time.

Disclaimer : This incident was told to me by the particular individual mentioned. He could have lied to me to make a joke out of me. So i canot take responsibility of this incident being true. Please check with various retailers for their return policy with or without receipt. Also please be informed that if you are in Canada illegally and if anyone finds that out with your expired ID./False credit card, you could be prosecuted by immigration authorities and police authorities.

Tamilkuravan,

Even the goras do it. I have seen people returning computers/washing machines, TVs, etc. after 8 months.

There have been people who have returned stuff without the actual product in the box especially with things like memory cards for digital cameras, accessories, etc. & if the guy accepting the returns does not check up the box physically then the customer gets the refund & gets to keep the product as well.

Rgds.

well Desi's have gone far beyond than what is being discussed here.
I have seen and know many desis who buy the Electronics items ( like digital cameras, camcorders, scanners, dvd burners etc). use it for a planned vacation and then get the photos / videos out of it and then return the items within the specified time limit.
This goes on. .... they do it most of the time, and their replies

I do not need for life man !, so just get it, use it and return it. are some of the comments from those.

We are trying to take canada back to bihar or India...The return policy is for the convienence of the customer, if abused, it is bound to cause difficulties to geniune customers as well in future.

If we have any CDs here who follow this, I request please refrain from doing so...

We already have seen the repercussions of liberal visa and immigration policies in the past...it has become more and more difficult to get transit and visitor visas for US/Canada even for genuine health/ professional / social purposes...I hope we are not subjected to discrimation in return policy in future as well...and we will have ourselves to blame if something of this kind happens.

Hope conscience prevails.

Ciao,
Hiren

As I said earlier, the return policy is abused by all.

One of my customers had bought a camcorder (the best Sony camcorder available in the store) before Christmas saying that he was going on a vacation for a week & wanted to record his memories. Before the 14 day return period expired, the camcorder was returned. The customer was a white guy.

So whether it is a white or desi guy, the policy is abused by many. Which is extremely bad & should be used for genuine case only.

Rgds.
