Please be informed that in all legal documents , court papers and affidavits , once a lady is married (at least India Im sure of) she is always (and legally needed) to put her name as ... w/o ... r/o ..(address of her husband). On the contrary a male is just referred as ... s/o ... r/o ... and in no case 'husband of .... ' .

Its an international practice (possibly legal also) that the wife acquires the name of her husband post marriage and CHC acknowledges this as long as both the maiden name and married name are mentioned in the marriage certificate.

Goud , I think its better that you email CHC N Delhi .They respond back in 24 hours . As a safe alternative , get the PCC first , then change the name in the passport before applying under married name . As long as your marriage certificate and passport show the conversion of family name , there should be no problem .

Dear Fido
I really dont understand here what you are trying to prove ( are you trying to prove me wrong ????? ) ...

Please reread what I wrote earlier ...

now resident of means you need to give the address where you are generally residing ( and I am talking about legally in India as well as canada ) ...

I'll repeat again the same example I took earlier ( I am trying to elaborate it )
If Husband is residing in Canada and wife is in India ....
Husband's r/O somewhere in canada
Wife is R/O somewhere in India ( she cannot write R/O where her husband is residing ) ... this is what you want as I understand from your post
Now if wife is living with her parents in the absence of her husband ( husband is in canada ) then she is R/O her parents address
And if she is living with her in Laws ( Husbands Parents ) then she is R/O her in-laws address ...
and legally it is not necessary ( I am talking about India now ) to give the address of in-laws ...
she can give the address of her parents as well if it is convenient to get the mail/letters ( for example what if parents of husband have moved to their village after retirement and wifes parents are still living in a City where you get the mail faster than in Village ... and you may never receive a mail in village ) , one would like to get the mail at the earliest ....

Resident of is information which should be verifiable ( it can be your parents or in-laws address and probably neighbour should be able to verify that you are living there most of the time )

You can get passport made from anywhere is India and similarly other documents including PCC and marriage certificate and there is something called permanent residence and another one called residence ( which can be used for communication through letters etc )

Now all this I have said may not be necessary for the Original question asked by goud but I have tried to clarify doubts of fido, hopefully you get my point ...

Now I get it ... what I was missing earlier ...

You are commenting based upon your understanding and without an insight in the legal system ...... Legalities work differently my dear .... you may be born in 75 but if your certificate says 76 ..... you are 76 born .

Anyways I wont waste my time on such gibberish ... I ve got better things to do.

To others and readers of this thread .... I ve already stated what I meant earlier . This needs to be checked with legal experts / CHC / Passport office also to be doubly sure .

how can you say that I dont understand the legal system ...
as per your statement above if your certificate says you are 76 born you are 76 born ... similarly if your wifes certificate says that her address is her parents address then she is resident of that address ...
so what is it that I am missing ... or is it that whatever you are saying is the ultimate truth ...
WOW ...

yeah that is why you keep opposing a different opinion which may be correct ... but because you dont know about it .... it is wrong plain and simple ...
if you dont understand something it is gibberish ... CORRECT ...

What does this means " To others and readers of this thread " ...
what are you trying to validate here ?????
Is it some kind of competition ?
if you want to validate your statements then go check with experts and ask the CORRECT questions ...
and if I am wrong let me know ... but do not oppose for the sake of opposing somebody ...

Goud, Fido and Blabber,
I had the same confusion about name change and since I didnt get proper guidance about how changing my wife's name to married name will affect the sponsorship application, we applied with the maiden name NOT the married name.

She had all the educational documents, passport, PCC, marriage certificate and other supporting documents with her maiden name and we got the PR visa in 3 months. After she came to Canada, the PR card, SIN card, health card and drivers license were issued with her maiden name.

If we still need to get her name changed, I will start by changing the Drivers license, followed by Health card, passport and the supporting document for that will be our Marriage certificate ( even an official name change certificate). We did this just to avoid any delays in processing the sponsorship application. Hope this information helps.

Regards
MS

I already know all this dear as I know many people who have gone through all this, that is the reason I have been so confidently telling whatever I told ...
I was just trying to explain but I guess some people just think that if others have a different information then them it is wrong ...
or some people just like to oppose others ... sometimes for the sake of opposing ... anyway " DUNIYA GOL HAI "

Thank you very much for the info ...
