Hope, my wife will get her Landing Papers soon
Thank God
Hi Guys! I really need an expert advise. Here's my case of spouse visa.
I sponsored my wife in May and she received passport request last week for visa from New Delhi CHC. Now, the issue is I have my official last name as 'Singh', which they do not wish to entertain. My wife doesn't have any last name on her passport. Although, I have my family name as 'Sapple' but never used it. She got her passport from Chandigarh passport office, so she is in the process of having her last name as 'Sapple'. Is it possible, considering our marriage certificate contains my last name as 'Singh'? How this all would go now? I am really worried, as this whole issue further extends or delays the whole process. It also complicated the things.
I guess the above makes sense. I would really appreciate any help, if someone has any idea of what I am talking about.
I also called one of the local Immigration agency here in Vancouver, and they said it's possible that she could have 'Sapple' as her last name once she advertises the same in the two newspapers. I am not sure and really worried now.
Any help in this regard is surely welcomed and appreciated.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Preet...
Hi Preet,
I am in almost in same kind of mess. My wife also has just one name on her Indian passport. I have collected all the documents for sponsorship but have not submitted the application yet. I am in the process of getting a last name added to her Indian passport and then I will have her go for medical tests.
We did a religious marriage which was followed by court marriage after one year and we have a child together already. I have already obtained her PCC etc, however I am a little bit worried as PCC is only valid for 6 months (if I am not wrong). I hope these other requirements don't take too long.
Anyways, I think you have two options.
1- add a last name to your wife's Indian passport and get a name change certificate as well (I guess in India you just use person's affidavit as proof of his/her name change, there probably is no certificate). I am waiting to get my wife's passport back this coming Saturday (after name change). You can get this done through a travel agent and they will do all the formalities for you for a fee of few hundred dollars.
2- keep it the the way it is (I checked with a lawyer in Vancouver) and he told me that it is possible to apply with just one name.
I may probably apply through a professional immigration lawyer or I may apply on my own - not sure yet..
Good luck.
