Hi,
Just wondering if anybody invested in pension plan in India?
I want to settle in India during my golden period(after 50) so want to have some pension.
Let me know if anybody already invested in Pension plan?

You can consider HDFC Standard's Pension Plan(Unit Linked). Over the last 5/6 years HDFC 's performance has been really reliable in terms of asset management.
Prudencial ICICI is also similarly good.
With the booming stock market in India , their Unit linked Pension Funds are really doing good.

Can you invest from US or Canada?
I think you have to be in India to invest LIC pension plans.
You invested in HDFC or ICICI?

I am under the impression that the LIC pension plan is for seniors who worked in the private/public sector without a pension plan (not the govt job), who got lacs of rupess of payments during retirement.
Other alternate would be the national savings certificates that would pay 8%. See link below. Note that they are taxable. At least there is some income coming during the golden years.

With more knowledge of health and nutrition (thanks to internet), IMO desis will live longer and they need enough income to sustain. The health ins sector is properly developed and will take a looong time.
I am not a fan of mutual funds. I would rather put my money in real estate in developing cities.

I am not sure if returns are good or what.
Are you sure NRI's are allowed to invest in national savings certificates?
Investment in Kisan Vikas patra is not allowed for NRI's

If I am right, NRIs with Indian passport and OCIs are eligible (cant confirm at this time) for NSC.
I am trying to read thru LIC pension plan. Having a hard time to understand what they are. Did not understand the premium issues.
