I want to convert some mini DV's from my video camera to DVD'd or VHS tapes - compatible in India . Has anyone tried this and where ? Are the costs reasonable?

I got MiniDV converted to DVDs from the "house of 220" at at Gerrard street india market. I think i paid around $15 per DVD....
if you go there dont miss out the collection of currencies from over 100 countries displayed over the counter .... i spent more time going over the collection than looking at the products there .

That is the only place i know of , I am sure there are other stores which do the conversions as well.

I am looking for "Picture Package" software of Sony to upload video from the camera to computer..

Can anyone who has Sony's picture package software lend it to me? It is not available for free download from Sony.

Thanks,

Hi,

If you have either USB2.0 port in your computer or IEEE Port, you could do it yourself to save some $$. One time investment might help to burn more DVDs from Mini DV in future.

If you've neither port in your computer, you can consider some off the shelf PCMCIA card which can be plugged into PCMCIA slot. These products come up with both USB 2.0 and IEEE compatible ports. Besides you may also need a Firewire if its
not in the package. Finally the software to capture the Images to your Disk which
can then be burnt as a DVD.

I used to have this peace of hardware including the firewire and I've left in US for later shipment. I might get it any time around June. I can lend you to use this if you could hold for some time or you could check with couple of buddies around who might have this.

Good luck..

If your miniDV was purcahsed in N.A., it might have recorded in the NTSC system. To replay them in India, you might need to convert it to PAL system. Most Indian Video sales / rental stores do them / DVD, 1 DVD=2 miniDVs. I know a few in scarborough if thats where you are located.
