Not too keen about getting citizenship. Getting citizenship was more of an practical thing rather than any idealistic process (Yes, it is double standards). Losing Indian citizenship means losing my identity - I feel as if somebody is peeling off my skin and trying to put a new one.
It is a bit dilemma. I have changed myself in lot ways since the time I came here. I am amalgamating into Canadian society and adapting Canadian values. But it is difficult (or impossible) to totally abandon your roots.
That is the same reason I waited so long to get my citizenship. I was waiting for the dual citizenship bill.
One other thing that bothers me about being citizen is pledging allegiance to the Queen of England and her heirs and successors. Pleding allegiance to Prince Charles and his rugrats - pledging allegiance to the same people against whom my ancestors fought a lengthy battle for the freedom. So it is kind of betraying the leaders who sacrificied their life for the India.
Sorry for the rambling. Couldn't stop...

Congratulations !!
Nothing wrong in maintaining personal reasons as to why you should or should not pursue Cdn Citizenship.
Take me for instance, right or wrong, good or bad, I've pretty much given up my "roots". I now consider myself Canadian and I am happy and satisfied. I am the only child for my parents and they have already decided what they plan on doing as they get older. So, that's settled for now, unless they decide to do a 180 and change their mind.
As far as pledging allegiance to the Queen, yes, I agree, that's irritating. But as Canadians, we may be able to change that in the future although I'd rather focus my efforts on getting rid of these terrorist as****es from my country.

Meghal,
As a person who has taken citizenship and who has refused to change his indian roots, i an gurantee you that the citizenship does nothing to change one's life. I feel the same before and after citizenship. You are a human being and nothing (even cdn. citizenship) can alter what your mind feels as the right thing to do.
So be happy. Follow your heart and make merry!

Took the oath today. people from 37 different countries.
Surprisingly the judge was desi and so were two people who manged the documents.
Not much impressed by the oratory skills of the judge. Somehow he lacked the confidence and charisma normally associated with an official in this kind of position.
