hello everybody!
i just came to know that i am the first guy from Nova Scotia to register on canadian Desi. and i am proud of it. this a great site. so many fellow indians. l would just like to give a quick intro of halifax so that it may help some desis if they plan to come here in future.

it is a pretty small town. the people here are really friendly and there is no and absolutely no complain from other desis of racism of any kind. there are no big industries here so there are less factories here. but there is a lot of offshore mining going on here so there is scope for people who are related to that kind of work. there is a fair amount of indian population here. there is a HUGE population of arabs here and they form the biggest community here next to whites. ( sometimes i think goras are less than the arabs ) anyways the weather is really nice in summer but the winter is terrible from what i have heard. the reason is that halifax is a very windy place so in winter the wind chill factor makes it even more colder. there is not much snow though. people who have come from toronto have praised halifax a lot. people who did not get a job in toronto got a job here. many call it a place where people retire, which is also true that there are many old people here. the place to visit in halifax is the citadel and the waterfront. the city is also free from pollution. it is really a very beautiful place. but due to the less no of desis many things available in toronto is not avaiable here or is very expensive. namely vegetables, some types of Kathol, and other stuff about which my mom complains a lot. as far as education is concerned we got two of the best universities of atlantic canada in halifax. St.marys university is considered the best in commerce courses and was rated 1st for its MBA program. Dalhousie University is famous for Dentistry and Science courses. Also it recently received a whopping no of computers and money from an computer based company . so if u want good education for urself or ur kids halifax is the place. the bus or the metro system is very effective and very convenient.rent of apartments is also very low to toronto . so is the insurance rates. but groceries and foodstuffs is espensive here compared to toronto.hope this answers somebody's queries. if anybody wants to ask anything more about halifax i am going nowhere.
thanx
Aalok

Aalok, you said that Indian Grocery is quite expensive. On this site there is only one Indian Grocery store listed http://www.canadiandesi.com/shop.php?BID=411&CID=1

So it is easy to assume that it might be expensive. Is there any room for opening another Grocery Store? As Toronto is too crowded for doing any desi business many people might think to move there..

yeah, you are right. there is just one or two grocery stores here and they are very expensive. there is definately room for more Grocery stores here. infact people will be absolutely delighted. i have known people to make trips to toronto to buy groceries and they say that it is cheaper than buying the groceries from here. also many types of vegetables are not available here and those rarely available are ofcourse expensive so ur idea is the BEST.
