Hello :

I am a frequent traveller to US for past few years. Everytime I get I-94 for 3-6 months. That I keep with me until it expires. Once it's near to expiry date, I travel to border and return it. Last time I could not go to border and I had my I-94 with me for about 5 months after expiry. I was scared to enter to US with long time expired I-94, but when I entered, Visa officer simply took it and issued me a new one for 6 months. Did not ask any question or any document at all. After everything is done, just for my curiosity, I asked him how long I can keep I-94 after expiry. He looked at me and said, you are just saved from a very big problem. You are lucky that traveling from land not air. If it's air with expired I-94, they can stop my entry and cancel the rest of the visa and possibly never get the visa. According to him, Land and Air entry rules are a bit different. He said, they are more flexible with Land entry. BUT TRY TO AVOID THIS NEXT TIME.

Now this I-94 is about to expire in 4 days. Due to some circumstances , I am not able to travel all the way to Niagara border just to return I-94

Does anybody know how to return I-94 within Canada ? Can it be done at pearson airport ?

Your early input would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

You are just plain lucky last time. This time around, don't take a chance. I am not sure if you can return the I-94 at Pearson. You may try talking to the US immigration staff there or better check with the US consulate in Toronto

I go to US frequently by air and many times don't return I-94. Nobody ask me to return and I also forgot to return. I always take new I-94 (if old one expires) and I never have any problem.

Seniors, please give your inputs.

Send it to US consulate at Toronto,
that would be ok, You have to return I-94 if you would like to avoid any trouble in future.

Nothing happened to me so far and nothing will ever happen to me are two completely different statements, you're quoting the former.

Its always better to play by the rules and return it. Definately not worth the risk.

Thanks BL for your advice and I will surely return it next time.

Only once airlines agent ask me - am I going to return to US within 30 days. If yes, then keep I-94 otherwise return it.

I don't know what is the exact rule. If I-94 is valid for 6 months and somebody has plan earlier to go back to US within this period and ultimately don't go back. Then how to return I-94. Returning it at airport does not look feasible to me, as how can you go inside airport to meet US immigration official without boarding pass.

Please provide link for rules for I-94, if somebody know about it.
