Thanks TK , BL and Jake3d,

Very valuable advice has spring out of this thread . BL , had I found that thread earlier I would have continued in the same and not started a new one.

TK , I know your daunting attitude to the Canadian winters :)

Jake thanks for your invaluable suggestion . I am sure we should never discount on our shoes in terms of comfort and utility . That tip of closetted wears is also an eye opener as we seldom experience this problem in India where ventilation is abundant.

Last but not the least - Morning Rain I agree that good clothes and attire is an investment .The better the cloth , the longer and better it will serve you. But I posted the original question to know ... how much better is good enough . And after all the responses I think I have known quite a bit in a single day .... Thats a the power of this site and its members !!

In any case, I've made this post a sticky in the "Just Landed" section. Expect this question to be asked by many other newcomers in the next few months, hopefully, we can have all the info in one place.

I bought my first jacket from Footlocker. A heavy duty down filled jacket for about $150. An excellent jacket for any winter condition. I also bought a similar jacket during early spring from Footlocker from $30. I was lucky because in a few days the jackets at that price just vanished from the shop. You may also want to check out Sportchek.

And finally...

Try the Sears Outlet store on Steels / donmills for some very good deals on Jackets and shoes. Remember, they are clearance items - no return/exchange policy..but you find good deals - sometimes. Last year a friend of mine found a good downfilled jacket with fur collar and handcuffs (ladies) for $19.99 which usually retails for around $80.00...

I believe it is worth the trip before you buy.

All the best.
