I am moving into a new house and i need to buy drapes. The custom mades seem to be very expensive. There seems to be very limited choices in the ready made ones. Is there some Indian tailor who will stitch hems with pleats if we buy the fabric? Appreciate any help.

If you visit the Flea Market at Warden/Eglinton in Scarborough, there are a couple of kiosks who do this work. If you're particular about Indians, yes, one of them is an Indian.

There are a couple of guys on the flea market at the basement of Dixie outlet mall and they are available only on weekends.

I do not know how it would work out with the cost of labor here. I bought mine from the Dollar store at the intersection of Dundas(W) and HWY 10. This one is right next to the Blockbluster.

Another el-cheapo place is the "Maximum Deals" at the basement of the Rockwood mall next to Black Photo studio.

They have a wider selection and cheap in prices too.

My friend got his done in India by sending dimensions to India and he got top quality stuff with lining, frills made at around Rs.10,000 for the living room. It works to about 250 bucks but really worth it.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
