To Morning Rain :
You are a second generation, not a first generation immigrant from India. (Your previous posts indicate that you were brought up in Canada).
Have you ever been to India?
You would never be able to perceive the likes and dislikes of a first generation immigrant at the same level. Members of this site are 99% First Gen Immigrants. What may not be likeable to you, will be likeable to 99% of members of this forum.
If you want to know more abt the lifestyle of middle class south indians in a small town, Go to south India, live there for 10 years, then comeback and share your experiences.
Take it easy..No offences meant.

Looks like the second generation does not have the "Indian Experience" similar to the first gen not possessing "Canadian experience"
Anyway, I would have to agree with Chandresh. The joke wasn't funny, although scarily, there might still be few individuals in India (and Canada and US and.......) happily indulging in such stereotype attitudes.

Dear Heaven,
Yes I am a second generation. If it matters, yes I have beento India many times.
I do not profess to understand the experiences of a 1st generation immigrant however I do know that sexist material is sexist material no matter where it comes from. It sounds like you are saying that 1st generations will all like jokes that are derogatory about a specific gender or group.
It if helps my creds with you, I am married to a first generation immigrant professional.

MR,
Why people in North America seem to take offense at most statements? IMHO, while trying to do the right thing, society now over-compensates and the final outcome is ridiculous.
Some examples - I remember around 5 years ago, an employee in the DC mayor's (the mayor is black) made a statement about having to be niggardly on expenditure. He had to resign following the furor over the use of the 'N' word. This, even after pointing out, that the people up in arms had to improve their comprehension skills and understand what the word meant.
When Star Wars 1 (the first of the new series) came out the gays, Caribeans, Chinese and just about every other group was up in arms over the supposed insults to their community.
I am not sure what to call black people nowadays without offending them - black, african-american, people of color??
People should learn to chill out a bit.
While the original intentions are good, they are being taken to absurd levels nowadays.

This whole matter has been blown out of proportion.
First of all it was in the "Have Fun" section and was not meant to evoke any serious discussion.
As a born and brought up South Indian in India , I can see the humourous side of it. So many of these instances have happened in my life/ i have observed in life . I have lived /stayed for 5 years in a college in India where North Indians have been around 30-40% of the composition and have seen how the north indian and south indian cultures clash.
Let us all see it from a Humerous angle.

Sidenote : I donot agree with lexM's views esp. about Africans/Blacks. N word is a derogatory word and it canot be equated with the words Africans, Blacks etc... It has the same meaning when you use the word SC/ST word as an insult in India.
