Dear sir / Madam
As the information concerned with Ministry of Transport of Canada, your son's certificate will not be any equivalency in Canada and also his Diploma. He has to redo the courses as per Canadian Tranport Ministry.
No foreign competency certificate of ship maintenance tecnician, eg, Chief, 2nd engr. etc are valid.
Yours sincerely
Bose
N.B. I am also intending to migrate to Canada soon. Bose
Please try
<http://marinetraining.ca/marine-programs/co-op/>
There are some co-op training courses that will provide employment for six months or there abouts and training during the remainder.
Nothing is lost in this world. The diploma that he has obtained could be used to obtain credits in the degree courses.
<http://www.mi.mun.ca/>
Please do contact them through the appropriate heading with all of the details after the completion.
If your son is desirous of settling down here like what you are doing, then, please do these prior to his arrival, providing ample time for evaluation and admission procedures etc., he can also mention that his parents are in Canada and settled, to provide him with support if necessary. I want to add that he will be earning enouth to sustain himself in these co-op courses. Imho, his qualifications were obtained with identical course materials and will place him slightly ahead of others and might permit him here to take up suppplementary courses to advance to a full certification after completion of simulator courses and marine safety procedures, within a period of six months, depending on how you time his arrival and when the courses start. But do find these through the Ministry of transport as they are the final authority who decide at what level he should be starting here in Canada in his career.
Besides the above two websites there are other provinces that have similar training facilities which I urge you to look into, if you so decide to settle down in those provinces. This is to keep the family into close knit unit and be of support to one another. If you do need any more info after your initial round of investigations, please do drop a note to this board and seek further info from the other knowledgeable people who visit.
Good luck and welcome to Canada.
Freddie.
