Good article.
Just a FYI on the "Cultural Bridge" paragraph. It states a lack of cops, TV anchors and such who are Indians or of Indian descent.
Windsor/Detroit tunnel on the US side has a Customs and Border officer who is a Keralite. He was able to "decipher" the samosas we were carrying and allowed us through without throwing them away as food products.
Detroit local news channels have couple of news reporters, one of them is Anu Prakash.
Bobby Jindal is a well known politician who ran for the Senate (?) from Louisiana.
It's changing in the US as well. Slowly, however, mostly probably due to a lower percentage of people of Indian descent.

Fido.
I pretty much agree with all the points. I was in the US for 5 yrs before immigrating to canada.
There is another problem which I faced in the US.
The H4 visa -
My wife quit her job in Mumbai and travelled with me to the US a few days after our wedding.
I resumed my job as a contract developer.
The marriage was still in "honeymoon" mode, so everything appeared rosy.
After a few months, my wife was extremely frustrated with her inability to find a job. ( non-IT field) ... for the simple reason that no employer was willing to sponser an h1 visa. Staying at home ... cooking and cleaning is enough to destroy anybody's spirit.
Three depressing years later ... we decided to move to canada and make a fresh start.
She got back into the job market within a matter of months. I did not have a lot of trouble finding a new job as there was a pretty good demand for IT in canada.
We have finally put down our roots and have achieved a certain level of stability in canada.
If I had opted to wait for my GC... chances are that my wife would still be without a job.... we would still be shelling out insane amounts for our rental place
And rest assured, we were not the only couple to have suffered from the "H4" phenomenon. I know quite a few couples who went back to India or immigrated to canada to get away from the H4 visa stress
any thoughts?
1) Visa issues:
good job but not legal status or GC in usa OR legal status in canada but no good job
what is good from above both???
most of friend come from US are on H1 and in field of IT they can easily findjob in canada and get legal status BUT what about other profession like Doctor, Pharmacist, Veternity, Nures, PE they all have to get lic and that lic only work in one state or province. they can't move eaily........and lic is also not easy process.
what about stay in canada for three year with any job and then move to USA for good Job on TN.....is this not smar idea.??? ( bcos many doctor, Nurse, pharmacist , engg are doing this......not too much by IT bcos their H1 pay is far less then this profession)
Nurse are getting Direct GreenCrad in USA from any coutry . even from india.
and they are well paid with the good legal status.
so every person to person the situation is different .
and visitor visa is denying for parent in canada also ....
There is no way in canada to bring your brother and sister.........even you are citizen in canada.
yes, i agree, it varies from situation to situation.
however, it is advised to research job prospects before immigrating to another country.
It is common knowledge that getting into profesisons like medicine / nursing etc in canada is challenging.
However, it is the immigrant who makes the choice.
It is very rare for people on h4 visa in the US to get a job in the US in the finance/banking/insurance sector. (I have never come across anyone, unless you decide to do an MBA and go for campus recruitment)
My parents had their visa denied twice when i was in the US. And mine was not an isolated case.
Last month, I applied for Canadian tourist visa for my parents... they got their passports stamped in 4 days. Again not an isolated case. Everyone in my acquaintance has been successful in getting a visa for their parents. It all boils down to getting the documentation right. Unlike whimsical US visa officers where visa documentation is probably used as a fan during hot summer days in mumbai
That being said, if you find a satifying job in the US as compared to canada, then it would be wise to move. By all means ... you should go...
The question again is, why come to canada in the first place?
