I would like to share my experience with both P@@MUS and magicjack.
I switched from bell to this company, based on what I heard - the logic was that being a VOIP provider, I would save money. I did save money, but had one the worst experiences of my life, with a service provider.
To start with, the router adapter kept malfunctioning, and each time I called their customer service center, I was put on hold for 10 to 15 minutes. Each time I was either routed to the wrong department or a person, who didn't know his or her job. I was so frustrated that each time I had to speak to a supervisor on the line (who, would unfortunately was either incompetent, unhelpful or both)
In desperation, I had to cancel my services with them. Instead of doing that, they sent me two router modems. So I was again on the phone with them, calling department after department, until I finally got someone who understood what I was calling about. At the end of the conversation, I got an assurance that my account would be closed at the end of 30 days. I had to return the modems that I had to their service center (at my expense), to have the matter settled.
Now this did not end there. Weeks after that happened, I got a bill from the company, charging me a \"non return fee\" of $ 150 per modem. So there I was talking to them again. Finally I had to fax in my proof of return to the company to have the matter settled.
I have rarely come across a company with such poor customer service. It was frustrating, to say the least. I would not be even the last person to recommend their service to anyone!
I use MAGICJACK to make calls to the US and to India . When I bought a magic-jack, I had my apprehensions - I was wrong!. I spent $ 40 plus tax to buy my magic-jack, and I have certainly saved hundreds of dollars on long distance calls.
There are some disadvantages though. To receive calls you need to have the internet on. 24/7, because the magic-jack connect to the USB port on the computer, and not the modem. Then Magicjack does not offer local numbers in Canada - essentially if someone were to call you from within Canada, it would be a long distance call. Lastly, there are occasions where voice quality suffers, but I heard that using a USB adapter could solve this issue. I am going to buy one, to see if this is right!
Offlately even Vonage is giving some troubles while calling India early morning or late night . "Lines are temporarily busy " is the msg that we are ending up now .

I have been using comwave VOIP for the last 3+ years. In fact I was one of the first customers, still using it. Works quite, apart from resetting my router once a week the VOIP phone never gives any trouble. Biggest thing you save lots of money. Till now around $720 as compared to a Bell / Rogers home phone. Since me and my wife have cell phones with unlimited incoming plans we never have to rely on the VOIP for incoming calls. We use it only for outgoing calls and works very well. People due to thier ignorance think VOIP phones have problems and don't want to move to them.
Now I am thinking of moving to something like Acanac which gives all call features + North America calls included for $9.95.
Don't like MajicJack very much since you need to keep you computer ON if you need to make a phone call. Why would I keep my computer ON all the time to make a phone call. Quite annoying.
There is another company called FreePhoneLine.ca It is a Canadian company, you need to pay for your own VOIP Adapter which you can get for around $70 shipped with 1 yr warranty + $50 for setup. After that you pay nothing $0 as a monthly fee. Most of the cities in Canada are free of Charge. I am going to try that one first and see how it goes. Worst case if the service does not work I can move to Acanac since the VOIP Adapter is mine, just lose $50 for the setup.
Keep away from Comwave. They are digusting interms of customer service and over billing. I had lost my peace to discontinue my services even after expiry of their contract.
Please do not fall into Comwave's trap............
