A fox meets a tiger in the forest. The fox says to the tiger, \"Don't eat me because I'm really powerful\". If you don't believe me, you can follow me around this forest and you will find out that every other animal will bow to me. Wherever the the tiger and the fox went all the animals bowed. If you thought that every animal was bowing to the fox then you are true Canadian. Well the fact of the matter was every one was bowing to the tiger which was accompanying the fox. Now you know who the tiger is that is your Good Ol' USA. In summary we Canadians take USA as our tiger.

This is an interesting analogy/observation made in the book\"Why Mexicans Don't Drink Molson\" written by Andrea Mandel-Campbell and published by Douglas & McIntryre Ltd. This book looks closely and critically at the Canadian Business Enterprise and lack of its will to make it in International trade, innovation or R&D. Whatever it is doing now is due to the presence of a few International Managers and NOT due to its how grown Canadian Managerial Talent(?).

Some of other famous quotes for your (IN)digestion are as follows:

1.Canada lacks MNC's.

2.This Fox(Canada) with its puffy tail and pointy ears, begins to resemble an overgrown squirrel.

3.Canada is almost Anti-Brand.

4.We are (Canadians) damn nice and middle of the road to put our imprint on anything and duke it out for the world domination unlike the Finns despite their socialist leanings are not so soft and cuddly.

5.So instead of being scrappers we are skimmers.

6.That kind of inward looking comfortable complancency has taken a toll on the country's entrepreneurial drive.

7.We don't(Canadians) have marketing mindset in this country at all. It's truely a void in the business world. There are many examples given and to name a couple IMAX and Insulin are prime examples.

8.Canada has some software and electronics companies, a little aircraft, but no consumer goods or cars and it's not really happening for computers or pharmaceuticals.

9. An economy on cruise control, with foreigners and foreign born Canadians at the wheel, while native-born Canadians in the back seat.

I luv the point 9. How true it is, and this is based on the responses of the new immigrants versus the Canadian born Desis on our very own CD!. It is scary to think that our Children would start thinking like the latter than the former.

10.Scratch beneath the surface of many a Canadian company and you will likely find an American.

11.Canadians abdicate brand building. It comes back to our great inferiority complex.

12.Canadians don't have confidence in their own abilities. They often bring in Americans to run their Companies\".

13.It's an issue of corporate culture. Canadians try to pretend they are not who they are.

14.It is not going to allow us to win on the global business playing field. Instead it will brand us as \"the economy that stands for nothing,\" a squirrel in a menagerie of tigers, dragons and elephants.

I was the first guy to borrow this book from Mississauga Public Library system after reading the review in The McCleans.

Open for discussion from people who have passed through many a dynamic situation(s) than a static one.

\"When we post in the section called \"Our native country\" should we talk about India or Canada ?.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

About point #9, don't you think you contradict your own posts from the past? All along, you have been cribbing about how bad Canada is for immigrants, and how every PhD is driving cabs. Now you agree that Canadian economy is on cruise-control with foreign-born Canadians (read immigrants) at the wheel and local born Canadians at the back seat!

Don't tell me that when you say foreign-born Canadians are at the wheel in Canada's economy, you meant that literally - ie., driving cabs!! ;)

Jughead,
I am sure that what Sankaracharya refered to was foreign people with white skin.
I can give an example of what transpired yesterday between me and a Desi IT software Lady. This lady and another columbian were finalised that either one was to be a manager. The Management choose the columbian. The desi IT lady told me that the columbian was an idiot and the managemenet choose her just because she was white and b'cos she used fancy words when talking. I have to agree with the desi lady b'cos i had been informed by many of her colleuges that she was (the Desi IT lady) was really bright.
CD's may or maynot agree, but i am sure that this is what Sankaracharya meant.

TK,

Your analytical abilities can only be topped by Sanky's. The super meticulous nature of your research above to reach the absolute conclusion you arrived at deserves no less than a noble nomination. Pure genius!

And I'm in utter awe of your and Sanky's unparalled experience of the world. No matter the context of an issue raised on CD, that event in some way, shape or form has invariably transpired in real life on a train (or a bus (or in the office (or at a desi gathering))) with you or him.
