We have finally decided to get a family doctor insted of just "playing it by ear".
So I have a referral and a phone number. What is the process:
1. call and request to register
2. gain an appointment for introductions
3. dont have an ailment that I need to discuss so I suppose it would just be a hi hello appointment.
Is the way it goes...any suggestions or better way of going about it.
Also if my husband chooses to get a health check up is this family doc the one to one to ask for it. Abit confused on this matter and want to get the doctor arranged in case there is any need to get his help.

That IS pretty much how you should go about registering with a FP.
When you go to the FP for the first time, all the people who are registering will be asked to go for a health check-up, to be followed by annual checks around the same time period. Most elements of the health check up are done in the doctors office (weight,BP, urine and blood samples etc) and there is a follow-up call in a week to 1o days time to discuss any potential problems
