The whole idea for this thread is to create controversy and build it up to 10 pages and I think this thread has now been upgraded from a storm to a to a tornado and we need to make it a hurricane.

1.During the recent US Masters when it was announced that Tiger Woods had a baby boy, the first response from the commentators was that the little tiger would be eligible to play Masters in 2025.

2.George W.Bush Snr made Bushya the Gov of Texas and a 2 term President of US; while the Jeb Bush the ex-Governor of Florida is waiting in the wings to run for President during 2013.To date 3600 US army guys and more than 600,000 Iraqis have been killed for no reason.

3.Our own TN's MK is now the CM of TN and earlier in his career he had said that DMK is not Sankara Mutt!. But now he is going to anoint son Stalin as the next of CM of TN; son Azhagiri as the next DMK party Prez; daughter already made a MP as the Minister for Environment.Isn't he following Manu Sasthra which he and his party is dead against.

4.Sonia Gandhi is already ready to hand over the reigns of her party to Rahul.

5.Viv Richards son has now joined the squad of WI during the tour of England.

6.Film Actress Sri Devi's mother died after an operation in NY by a Desi Doctor. The only small mistake done was that he operated the wrong side of the brain. Sri Devi received Millions of Rupees as compensation(the source of funding/reason for Boney Kapoor to marry her)for this mistake.

May be Dr.M has obtained his inspiration from the above said news thinking that if Bush Snr can let his son kill 3600 of his men in Iraq, what is the consequence of a single life(that too his relative).

Let the Games Continue.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

Going through the postings, I fail to understand why there is such a big fuss !
The boy did the C-Section in front of 2 qualified doctors. If the boy was doing a mistake, then his parents would have stepped in and stopped it. Woun't the parents have known that if the boy did a mistake then that they all 3 would be in jail? Would the Parents have been so naive that they would have let the boy make a mistake? Tha father, of course, thought that this was not a big deal but when it was made a big deal by other members of the medical field, he had to retract his original story. There is nothing wrong in that. If you say that this is wrong, then the same can be applied to the doctors allowing us to cut the umblical cord. This individual did not do heart or brain surgery but only did a c-section which is relatively simple. It just requires a cut in the/near the tummy area . I shall explain it to you with 2 examples that has happened in my life.

Example 1 : My father was a govt. veterinary doctor. In 1979 he got an oppertunity to go to Nigeria, Africa. At that time his salary in India was Rs. 800. He was offered Rs. 6000 by the Nigerian Govt.. As any honest man would have done, My dad went to the Tamil Nadu Veterinary services and asked to be relived of his services since he had an offer. The person that he spoke to was very sweet and he said that he would relive him since he was going to greener pastures. The next day, the same officer (due to jealosy) refused to let him go. My father then had to run away from the country to Nigeria. The same head person, informed the police and the police were looking for him. in 1983 we all returned to India. There was an enquiry and my father was terminated from Govt. service. I cam compare this incident to what happened to my dad.

Example 2 : When ever my father performed an operation on a cat or dog, he would allow me to operate the cat /Dog under his supervision. These were all small surgeries. I regularly used to inject cats/ dogs from when I was 9 years of age under my father's supervision. I donot see what is the big deal in that. I was not allowed to come near cows and bulls since they were huge beasts and they could move very swiftly and hence were too risky. Other wise, I could have done that also.

Sidenote : Actually, when i read that incident, I was very proud of the boy's achivement. I did not that that so many Cd's would be against it. I naturally could understand the Indian medical personal's grudge. This is b'cos medical doctors elevate their profession as if all and anything can be performed only by them (similar to the Canadian way of needing Canadian experience/qulification). Remember that 20-30 years ago, Childbirth was done by old ladies in the village.

TK

If you dont see the ethical problems of what the "Doctor" parents did allowing a child to operate on someone then no one can convince you.

However...your own logic defies me. "IF" all it takes for a 15 year old to perform a surgery is the watchful eye of two trained doctors, then it is reasonable to conclude that a 15 year old anywhere in the world can do this.

How does this prove anything about indians ability in Medicine and IT?? All it proves is that Indian doctors are willing to put their own jobs on the line and their ethics for some media attention.

Morning rain,
It is a well known fact that Indians are kings when it comes to medicine and cmp. sci..
It may have been done by any 15 year old guy under guidance but it turned out to be that Dr. Murugesan's son's from Manaparai, Tamil Nadu (famous for Murukku) tunred out to be the first guy in the world to do so. Goes on to show that if a country is good at something, then guiness records (unofficially it is a guiness record) will be made by that country.
I feel that it is OK to do a risky job (read surgery) by any tom, dick or harry provided he is under the guidance of someone who can guide him to do it properly.
As said before I have injected Terramycin on cats and dogs. The decision to use Teramycin came from my dad. It does not matter if i injected it in the hind leg or tummy or the neck of the cat / dog. In the same way, my dad will make the decision as to where i should make in incision and for how long and deep. It does not matter that he should be the one to do it. Either i do it or the livestock assistant does it or the owner of the pet does it.
I hope you get the point that i am trying to make.
The boy did not do anything creative nor was the task that performed a huge one.
I would rather be operated by Dr. Murugason or his son than to be operated by SOME doctor in Canada. Some Doctors in Canada are that bad ( I also agree that India has a few bad eggs.).

CDs,
1)
We all know about Budhia Singh. The 4 years old was banned from running marathons, because it would be detrimental to his health.
Mother's reaction.....Protesting the police's stance, the child, his mother Sukanti Singh, and supporters sat in a dharna.

2)
At an age when kids barely learn to walk, a fifteen-month-old in Chennai is all set to enter record books for his swimming ability.
Who planned this....his maternal uncle, (a swimming coach?).
The mother (Vijaya Lakshmi), says: "I want my son to be a long distancer and get into the Guinness Book of Records...I want him to cross all the channels in the world... we need the government support."

http://www.ibnlive.com/videos/42836/15monthold-sets-swimming-record.html- Video.
Recent finding suggests that swimming is harmful for a baby, itaffects baby's lung function and development.

TK .... parents have realized their mistake .... that is why they have retracted their claim and are saying he just watched the operation ..... apart from being an ethical question .... there might be legal action against the parents if it can be proved that he did indeed perform the operation.... which for now is not possible as they have retracted their statement & the lady on whom the surgery was performed would unlikely give a statement ....
he did not retract his story because his collegues made a big deal of it ..... he simply realized that he will be in soup & maybe loose his licence to practice...
