I reread my messages and some new immigrants may not understand the word 'touque'. A picture is worth a thousand words so

Also about winter boots...my advice, do not bring from India. It'll be better to go for ones from here.

I've found that 'Kamik' boots are good. Especially for small kids. They rate some of the kids boots for -40 weather

e.g:

Try to buy ones that are part rubber (like the kids boot shown above). Even if you spend 100$ on good boots...it should last you quite a few years...and excellent for Canadian winters. At the end of winter these boots go on sale, often for half their price.

And yes...buy a shawl too...can protect your nose and chin...especially if, like me, you dislike ski-masks..

I personally like Columbia sportswear shoes (having temp mark) for dead winter.

You can buy Merrill shoes. They are good and very comfortable but not for very low temp.

If looking formal/office long shoes then buy Rockport or Hush puppies. They are good in winter.

The NorthFace- shoes are also good but they are good in winter sports.

Timberland - Mostly shoes are winter resistance and few are waterproof. Good in all time wearing, office and little cold.

LLBean- Good and little cheap on price. Best value of money in winter. Few shoes having temp advice.

Change your mindset . Develop a liking for extreme cold . Enjoy the walk out in the cold . The more you are scared of it , the worse it is . Its all in your mind ! Fool the brain .

Ofcourse , dont forget to dress properly .

One more thing...

Be careful of walking in the snow and ice since it can be slick and slippery. Wear boots with good traction.

You can find them here in Canada in any store...
