G test at Guelph

Also recommend Kitchener. I got my G there - it was a breeze. Before the test I drove on the roads around the Drive Test Centre and familiarized myself with intersections, stop signs etc. It was a good move because the examiner chose one of the roads where I had driven before and I sort of remembered the layout. The highway has a 80kmph limit and the only tricky part was that the distance between entry into and the exit from the highway was too short. Also had a 3 point turn and a parking on a side road. All ok in the end - minor errors but passed.

I was googling for 'driving test route Guelph' and this popped up 2nd on the list ... I guess we are doing good as a popular forum ....

In case anyone can share experiences for the Guelph Test Route or can recommend an ace Instructor (1-2 classes) for the G test and 401 s ... please post contact details here ... passing a test is one thing but learning the real skills for the 401s is the main objective ...

Folks ,

I have my G Test coming up in Guelph this week . To those who have taken a G test @ Guelph - could you please share the possible routes ? Is the Highway known as Hanlon and do they expect to merge in it from Speedvale ?

I intend to go an hour early and practice on some routes there so as to gain confidence ........ Would appreciate any pointers ... Thx ..

G Test at Guelph
Hi Fido,

I passed the G Test from Guelph.

I can walk you through the routes as I live and work close to the examination center.

Alternatively you may take the contact no. of the local instructor who has been in this profession for the last 22 years:

Vic (Vikram) Sharma of ABC College Driving School.

Bus : (519) 822 5122
Cell : (519) 241 4884

The instructor will charge around $ 40 for atleast one class. However hiring the instructor is something like getting the question paper before the exam.

Please let me know if I can help you in anyway though I passed the exam without the help of the Instructor.

Regards,
AAA.

AAA ,

Thanks for responding .... I have taken classes in Mississauga this weekend from an Instructor .... its too late for me to try an Instructor in Guelph as my test is in this week itself ...

I am sending you a PM - please share the common routes and tips ( here if you please ) ..... I intend to drive for around 30 -40 mins on the intended route/s ..

What I know is that the Center is on Woodlawn Road ...... they tell you to take a left on either of the roads -- Royal Rd . and then going ahead on that , you take a left on Speedvale which after some time merges into Hanlon hwy ...... I don't know which exit they take you out at and what is the proceeding route ....

Would appreciate if you could let me know the route/s .

Thanks .

I cleared my G test today @ Guelph .

Guelph is a small town with less population , traffic and less complicated roads ... Had a nice lady instructor whom I d requested to give me directions well in advance . I followed everything as to what I d memorized over the last 2 days ..... and posted else where , was confident of what I was doing , though I am sure I messed up at a place or two .......... but in the end she said that I d passed ...

It pays to drive a little in the environment , makes you familiar though it was essentially following the directions , keeping the rules in mind ...

Maintain road speed .
Always look left and right at an intersection when passing it .
Stop means full stop .. before the line .
Check your rear view mirrors every 5- 10 secs .
While turning / changing lanes ... mirror , signal , shoulder check & maneuver ...

In practice , I would nt do a shoulder check on a local road once I have done my rear view mirror checks .... but at test I d purposely move my head left and right to show what the examiner wishes to see .

Thanks to AAA who gave me specific directions for the Guelph Hwy ..

Last thing - if you realize you have messed , don't bother - move ahead ... remember there s scope for minor mistakes .... in fact till 30 points being docked , you still pass .... I had 17 points docked ... and I knew where I d messed but I continued confidently , trying to complete the other directions correctly .... w/o expecting a +ve or -ve result .... and it worked .... Some times when you are nervous for expecting a +ve result , you err more than you otherwise would ...

Congratulation! Fido, on your passing the G test
Thank you for the compliments.

I am happy that you came to my city all the way and got the desired result.
It will provide sufficient inspiration to people to make their way through the test.

AAA

I should have provided this information ..... They ask you to get the vehicle in the rear of the centre from where they asked me to go towards the intersection of Woodlawn & Silvercreek .... asked me to go right on Woodlawn , then perhaps the 2nd left on to Arrow Rd and then straight till Speedvale ...... from here she turned me to go left on Speedvale ... but since there was construction , she told me to take the first right and some how routed me to Hanlon ................. after which I lost track as I am not acquainted with Guelph roads .....

I simply kept on following the instructions ......... left turn from red light , go straight at this one ............ She did get me to loop on the Highway ... Hanlon , twice ......... simply follow the road signs , and rules and left and right head turns and speed limit and all the other things , you should be good ...

I had done 2 things to acquaint myself with the area .......... I had checked Google maps and since they now have the stitched images option , I had actually virtually toured the area on Google ........looking at how the roads were and the railway lines and other stuff .

Another thing was that I had reached the centre 30 mins before and driven around the roads to get a hang of the place and see how the rail lines are what kind of road structure is there .... it helps to be familiar but in the end its the following of the directions .

I was not asked to do a parallel park but was asked to perform a road side stop , 3 way turn and a reverse parking ......... For the road side stop , remember to take the car off the road on the gravel as I had not done it and she asked me to ....

All the best .
