So far all I see on the CIC web-site is this, when I click the link to check the application status using my wife's client ID (PR card number):
"We received your application to sponsor XXXXXXXXXX on December 8, 2006.
We started processing your application on May 21, 2009. "
We've called CIC many times and asked them how long it takes once they
start processing the app to get an approval. They told us 6-8 weeks. It's now
about 11 weeks.
And how is it that an ack. of Dec 9, 2006 has been approved on May 7, 2009 and they started processing an ack. of Dec 8, 2006 on May 21, 2009? Do they process/approve faster if the sponsor is a Can. Citizen vs. a PR?
Thanks.

Did you receive a sponsorship approval letter from them, along with your file number? If Yes, that package would also have contained the forms that the prinipal applicant needs to fill out and submit to the Consulate in New Delhi.
I am a bit confused as to how you can check the application status without getting the sponsorship approval.
Also, it does not make a difference if you are a PR or citizen in the way your case is treated.
Another update on the In-Canada portion processing timeline - it is now 31 months (the longest in recent memory)

Thora sa dhakka laga hai!!
It has moved to Jan. 17 today....still 31 months backlog!
Wonder if this delay in processing time in Missisauga will speed up the "out of Canada" portion of the application...

Not likely..as the in-Canada portion and out of Canada portion processing times are not-corelated. As things stand today, you are looking at a minimum of 4 years for the entire process.
