Hi,

I have a question. Is it true, when the parents' sponsorship is approved (within Canada), and the file is to be filled up and submitted by parents in India they need to show their marriage certificate alongwith their wedding pictures? I applied in Nov. 2008. Anyone else applied during the same time?

Also, I have included my mom in the application and made my dad a principle applicant. How does the process go when they need to submit the application in India? Would they need to fillup-submit the applications individually (I hope not, but confirming), or as one application where my dad will remain the principle applicant and mom to as accompanied?

Would appreciate the response from people who have gone through the process.

Thank you.

Hi febpreet,

would you pls tell me have you got any confirmation or approved letter from CIC.
b'cos i applied for my parents on March-2008 and they send one letter in April 2008 that we recieved your application and that's it. No more communication from CIC.

Online status is still showing under process.

your reply will help a lot.

thanks

Hi RBO. Yes, I also received this communication and nothing after that. The status is showing 'In Process' for me as well. Last I checked two days ago, they were processing applications received in August, 2007.

I calculated my timeline and as per the wait times that is shown on the site, I don't expect any response from them before March, 2012 and if everything goes well then the landing not before September, 2014.

A real test of perseverance and patience, I must say:( . I will have to rely on the visitor visa for them in the meantime as it's a long time. Only God knows if they keep increasing the In-Canada wait times for Parents/Grandparents.

Standby, until then.

After wait for more than 1 year and 8 month, now we got a one letter from CIC.

It says about sponsership Agreement and mentioned in letter that we did a photocopy of this letter and keep this letter in safe place as it is original letter.

This letter we sent during our application time in March-2008.

this original letter which was signed by me and my wife and down my Father's signature as well.

anyone have an idea what is meaning of this? Do i consider that now they take our file for process or not?

Regards

Hello Febpreet,
After the Canadian processing of sponsors (we young people), the file is transferred to New Delhi, where it takes another eternity. Your parents will need to fill out a single application, where your dad is principal applicant, and mom is the spouse. I doubt that they will ask for their marriage certificate (unless your mom still goes by her maiden name). Usually their valid Indian passports, Police Clearance Certificates (which is a big racket nowadays in corrupt India), medicals by a DMP (designated medical practitioner), then another 10-12 week wait for visas to be issued. In general (not always), if medicals are cleared, then good news is a few weeks away.
Maintaining good health is of paramount importance, especially avoiding major infections like HIV, Hep C, Hep B, pneumonia, major heart disease, etc. Issues like controlled diabetes, controlled hypertension, controlled arthritis are usually not an issue with the visa officer.
Remember, 12 months to enter Canada after medicals, so be careful about the dates and validity.
Personally, we found that medicals were done for a TRV (visitors's visa) less than 8 months ago, but the two departments have no clue of each others' files or deliberately donot honor medicals from TRVs. So my parents got another set of medicals done and had to pay all over again for their immigration. Even the doctor in Mumbai was surprised to see them again. And yes, we tried telling them a million times with File ref nos and all, but to no avail.
For all the organization and discipline we see here in day to day governance, not a fraction is seen in the New Delhi office of the Canadian embassy.
We are all expected to grin and bear it.
Wonder if it would be the same if Stephen Harper had to sponsor a parent or parent-in-law from a foreign land.

Hello RBO,
The sponsorship agreement is legally binding on you and your wife for 10 years after your parents land on Canadian soil. It means that if you fall on hard times and cannot care for your parents, they will be forced to join a soup kitchen as the Canadian Government will not offer any help to them for a period of ten years, not even seniors' supplement or welfare.
This is an important document in the sponsorship process, and in general (not always), means that you probably got approved as a sponsor based on your initial sponsorship documents and income proof submitted.
I am not an immigration lawyer, so my advice is from personal experience only.
Enjoy the waiting game.

Thanks Vipul for valuable reply,

Hope you are right and they are going to approved sponsership, Still we didn't got any confirmation letter from CIC.

How long does it take any idea??

Rgds

Kindly if anyone could tell me where my parent's application stands:

On line it states:
We started processing your application on August 5, 2010.
Medical results have been received.

How much time more will it take for my parents to arrive in Canada

RBO - You applied in March 2008. The current processing time is 41 months for the sponsorship approval and will go up to 48 months in the next year. Even if they adhere to the current timeline, you will not hear anything before end of 2011.
Don't bother logging in everyday to check for updates on your application and don't try to interpret what they mean by "in process" or "accepted". It doesnt matter in the overall scheme of how CIC treats parental applications. Just sit tight and wait for your turn.
