Indian Store & Dollar Store - Downtown Toronto??

Hey Guys,

I have landed in Toronto yesterday, and I am looking to buy some Indian food items as well as some cheap household stuff from Dollar Store.

This place is new to me and I don't know how to start and where to go.

I could find lots of addresses from internet and this forum, but how to proceed for going there is still a mystery for me.

I live near to Union Station / Spadina.

I just have this information that I can get a Day pass of Public transport to travel all through the day on it.

Any pointers to where exactly to go and which route to take for Dollar Store and Indian Store.

Your help would be sincerly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

P.S.: I want to buy some Dals and Atta from Indian store, and belan and other usual cheap household stuff from Dollar Store, just in case this would help you guys for choosing store for me.

There have been recent health advisories about buying personal items from dollar stores that are manufactured in China such as toothpastes.

Dollar store items are generally of low quality. I wouldnt recommend you buy any food/cookies/snacks ... or toothpastes from there.

Its good for other household things though.

Sorry - I am in British Columbia.
How about a Future Shop? if not... ask people around you. If you explain that your new ..people are sure to help.
ask shop keepers..go into the yellow pages and call around.

Little bit of help
If you can go to Gerrard Street and make a small trip, there you can buy all your Indian Groceries in one shot and take the street car back to spadina or to your location. Also, on the Gerrard street they have the house of 220 for plugs and adaptors. You can't go wrong there. Give them a flying visit, whenever you have a day pass.

Padma Groceries
1188, Bloor Street West,
Phone: (416) 539-8043
This store is not close, but the nearest as I see it, because you have given
a vague idea of the place you are staying.

Try 190 Baldwin street store: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=search&addtohistory=&address=190%20Baldwin%20Street&city=Toronto&state=ON&zipcode=M5T&country=CA&geodiff=1

Enjoy exploring Toronto. Also pick free guides, such as Ride Guide from the Subway stations. Kesari Pages and Asian directory 2007 for your future reference. You also get free tabloids '24 hours' and 'Metro' at the subway entrances in the morning hours.

Enjoy exploring Toronto.

Freddie.
