Is there an option to pick-up your passport in-person?
Or is giving them a mailing envelope the only option?

I had picked up my passport. (They called me to let me know that it is ready for pick up.). I am not sure if this facility is still available - I had done it in 2000.

The website says 1 week to mail the passport so 1 week for mailing, i guess one should get the passport in 2 weeks.
There is a tatkal scheme where you pay 150$ extra and u get passport next day.

A friend is a travel agent. She said dont do anything just take both passport to the interview and they will stamp visa on the new passport (no problem)

now have to prepare and submit application for new passport

Question about the photos - they need 4 identical photos.
Most photo studios do the Poloroid set of 2 photos.

Where did you guys get 4 identical photos done?

Thanks.

Try Walmart and ask for additional copies. You pay double the price.

Believe me, we clicked fair quality photos on my digital camera according to the embassy specs (US Visa), cropped them to required size, uploaded onto Walmart website for photo printing and collect the required copies (after 1 hr) for 19 cents each..they worked equally well....just a note of caution, you need a minimum 2 mp camera and use the potrait mode with sufficient lighting and tripod (if available) or a very steady hand. If you go to walmart photo studio, thats exactly what they do....

All the best.

Why do everyone keep on "renewing their passports", when its clearly a "NEW PASSPORT".

THERE IS NO RENEWAL FOR AN EXPIRED/END OF LIFE INDIAN PASSPORT....

You get a brand new passport with a new number.

Try to get ur old passport back and keep it with you for a few travels. I luckily had my old passport, and the indian immigration wanted to see it upon my return from India.
