Jamookha, point taken. There is much more to Indians than litter-filled streets. Some NRI's do constantly crib about streets in India or Indian dominated areas in North America, which in my view is an unfair characterization.
However the context of my post was different. While idea of 'Little India' is tempting, there are certain ground realities to consider.
We live in a gora dominated country. So...
1) Police will not as enthusiatically patrol the areas as they would for 'gora neighborhoods'. Of course, the neighborhood can take over.
2) Same with public services. The snow removal guys, garbage trucks etc will not give the same level of service as in other areas.
3) Indians tend to be rich. Any island of rich people in a town hungry for revenues will be subject to tax-rape.
4) If the community turns out to be good, then the it will be subject to envious eye of others and we will be accused of gentrifying the neighborhood.
5) If it turns out bad then 'Balkanisation' of Toronto is what you will constantly hear. Damned if you do, damned if you don't!
All the benefits of a community can be enjoyed by social/cultural/economic networking by desis, and at the same time, remain integrated with the mainstream community without losing our identity. So why stand out like a fish plate? We could instead get layered into the majority and let good points stick out and bad points get absorbed by the whole.
Practive,
When you ask for opinions from such a vast community, It would be a mixture of positive and negative.
I was reading "Magic of Thinking Big" ...
The first chapter itself is "Believe you can succeed and You will"
So instead of asking others ... ask yourself "Do you believe in this Project?"
"Belief, string belief, triggers the mind to figuring ways and means and how-to. And believing you can succeed makes others place confidence in you."
In no way I am trying to lecture you, I felt a BIG difference in my life after starting reading Positive Mental Attitude books. Just thought this might be a good idea to share this with other Dreamers.
*Belief, strong belief
Excellent idea.

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
Hi,
Just wanted to let you guys know that I visited The Sitara informational session on Sunday. Lotsa people moving in and out.
This shopping complex is exactly that - a shopping complex with an atrium for seating of 300 people and a banquet hall for 1000.
Nothing much else. No movie theatres, no auditorium, no day care centre and no places of worship.
Practive's idea is more comprehensive. However in my opinion, the places of worship should be omitted unless of course you can accommodate temples, gurdwaras, mosques, churches etc. (Bawas, Jews incl.). And then, there will be those who will say they should be a separate temple for each God in the Hindu pantheon- you know Shiv, Hanuman, Ram, Krishna etc.
Also as pointed out by practive this is a JV- between Chinese and Indians- and not wholly Indian, though that isn't a bad thing.
I am all for it. Go get 'em practive and if you're looking for help, just holler.
Lucky,
Thanks for the encouragement.
Did you see the AD on the front page of Canadian Desi?
Yes! We are doing it and we will have our very own Largest South Asian Complex soon.
Thank you all for your support.
Cheers.
