Very true, and an excellent article. Agree with each and everything written therein. Sunita Williams, Norah Jones, Bobby Jindal, etc. are all American. Time is ripe for India to not waste their headlines for the Americans' achievements, but their own, not to worship the American Hero's but Indians only.
But, who listens!!! May the sanity prevails.
Should apply to some desis in Canada also (some in CD too).

Mumbai Maazi Ladki ...
This article first talks about how famous people have made 'tenacious' links to India..and how dare they say they are Indian. Then it goes on to say Why do Indians in India feel proud of these overseas "Indians" for their accomplishments.
My thought which I have expressed many times here...a person who wishes to be identified as indian..whether part..or 1/3 or 1/4 or 2/3 or whatever has the right to do so. If you came to canada and have taken canadian citizenship does not mean you stop being an Indian.
This article smacks of elitism. By commending accomplishments of those indians or part indians who have excelled somewhere in the world, they are not degrading the accomplishments of India.
There is enough pride and glory and whatever else to go around.
Really its like the whole concept of castism. Its got to be purity or its nothing.
I give this a thumbs down.

Every culture that has a perceived lack of global/international celebrities tries to claim it's own from it's diaspora and this is not limited to India or Indians. How many times have we heard in the Canadian media about Hollywood celebrities who are Canadian (or born in Canada) like Jim Carrey, Mike Myers et al. ? I guess the global standard for any culture is how well their citizens (or ex-citizens) do abroad (read America)!!
