They have identified themselves as Americans, not Indians. Also if a person is born in India and comes to Canada and taken the citizenship (like me and many others), then that's a entirely different situation/scenarios. U r mixing the two.

Hi DIO,
How would you classify, if you don't mind me asking and you replying:
A person who has an Indian father and an English mother ?
A person who has a Swiss maternal biological grandmom, Indian maternal 'biologicla' granddad, Indian paternal biological granddad and Mom.
How about Tom Alter? You seem to be into Hindi movies quite a bit, so you must know of him.
The 1/3 and 2/3 also baffles me- I can see 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 though, speaking colloquially
Even I don't have a 'clu' about 'castism'- so about 'cluing' us all in.
Even if it is about casteism (yeah I know a typo- but let's hear it about casteism)
Tom Alter is "puca"Indian ... born & brought up in India ...... His father was a miissionary from America
How abt Indian born Canadian? Fair enough? Since I have spent more than half of my life in India, would I be 2/3 Indian? Won't make any sense. Coming to the thread, the article relates to those who were born and brought up in USA. If some people dont want to see that, that's ok with me.
At least I was born in India, and proud of it. If there was a dual citizenship, like Pakistan and other countries, I would have kept both. Anyway, lets see what the future holds.
DIO
Your two views .... you can be 2/3 indian but others cannot ........

Now coming back to the article .... it seems that the media has been "choked"by reports of these americans. To quote from the article "
"Indian schoolchildren light diyas (lamps) or fast, villages and towns in remote corners of India distribute sweets, dance in joy, and the cameras chase the drivers, aunties, uncles and village postmen for sound bytes—all because the son or a daughter of a former resident who quit the country fifty years ago has achieved a modicum of success thousands of kilometers away. "
Excepting for the welcome Sunita Williams got , no one "celebrated"Bobby Jindal or Norah Jones ...... If some people in Malerkotla distribute sweets .... does it mean that all of India is suffering from inferiority complex!!!!
It is just a piece put together by some one who feels we Indians have a complex, then he has built a case by giving examples which dont seem too convincing.
Take the example given by Suheal Seth ..... Bose .... when did the indians celebrate about bose .... when was the last time you heard Indians distributing sweets for him .
Now again he complains we dont treat our heroes ... Bismillah Khan & MS Subalaxmi ..... giving example of Pavarotti. You are comparing apples with oranges. Compare him with Amitabh or Shahrukh. Pavarotti will have a complex at the amount of media attention our heroes get. When Amit had his acident he was on news all that time, any celebrity would kill for the kind of attention we give to our celebrities here in India.
We are "over the top people"..... so we have teh same way of expressing our effection for people who we identify as one of us. Now Sunita got the reception'.... we have never welcomed Naipaul the same way ..... Infact the media asks him all the time , fully knowing his position about being called an india, in order to get some "sound bytes".
So take this article with a pinch of salt & feel happy.
