Finally Tata's have got it done as promised.
Here is more on this http://www.tatapeoplescar.com/tatamotors/
I think this will be very successfull, as most of the middle class can afford the car.
Currently people pay around Rs 50000 - Rs 65000 for two wheelers and bikes. So this being priced at 1 lakh should be a big hit.
The design is also very cute and compact enough for easy maneuvering thru crowded indian roads..
Here are some of the possible downsides..
While the price has created a buzz, critics say the Nano could lead to possibly millions more automobiles hitting already clogged Indian roads, adding to mounting air and noise pollution problems. Others have said Tata will have to sacrifice quality and safety standards to meet the target price.
The chairman, though, insists the car will meet safety standards and pollute even less than motorcycles, passing domestic and European emission standards and averaging about 50 miles per gallon (20 kilometers per liter).
kool..tfs..looks like Indian SMART car..

Saw it on the tv this evening. Looks cool. Should be good for city traffic. Supposed to run 20 km/liter. Hope the users dont abuse it by driving on the highways or overcrowding it like a laala family. IMO, its meant for cities not highway.

With due respect to TATA and its legacy of sound industrial management, I would doubt the safety aspect of this car, not from the crash rating point of view, but stability angle. It is not a secret that thier once famous TATA sumo is the most unstable 4 wheel vehicle on the road. I believe safety should cover not only the crash rating but stability ratings as well.
All in all, it is a comendable effort from TATA, but vehicular congestation is a reality which needs to be dealt with IMMEDIATELY and sincerely by municipalities and state and center government.
But I cannot imagine driving a car without power steering, since I havent driven that in my life yet...(been driving since 1991),,maybe a good excercise for the arms on the road besides the constant leg excercise due to repeated accelator and brakes...

Great job by Tata. But where are the roads to drive this baby? And what about parking? Cooperative Housing societies these days do not have enough space to park two wheelers. I know of societies in Mumbai where the owner of an apartment does not have parking space within the compound. And many socities do not have parking facilties for any vehicle. So where are the cars going to be parked? On the roads?
CP24 has it constantly on the news ticker,
Words that come to my mind
"Jhakas, saalaa!"
