Hi ,
I was working on a Project in chicago on TN Visa .
So I applied for OCI in Chicago thinking I will get it in a month or two instead of applying for it in toronto .
Now I came back to canada in the end of december after my project completed ( and OCI was not there for me yet after more than 5 monhts ) .
Now unfortunately I misplaced my passport and I see that my OCI documents are ready as well .
Now the Question I have is :
1) Can I ask cgi toronto to transfer the OCI to canada from Chicago and stamp on my PP
2) or it has to be done in the Chicago consulate itself
3) also somebody told me that as the PP based on which I applied for OCI is misplaced I'll have to start the Process of OCI registeration again which seems a bit too much to me .
And I did not take up any other project as I want to go to India .
any ideas/suggestions .
Thanks in Advance .
Hi,
You are not mentioned about your years of residency in US before applying for OCI. To my knowledge Indian consulates in US will not issue a PIO or OCI to citizens other than US citizens until unless you show a proof of residency of at least one year in US.
Let us know if this is not the case.
There is no such condition of staying in US for a year .
Chicago consulate accepted my application and completely processed it ( took more than 5 Months ) and it seems my documents are ready to be collected .
My Question remains ?????
Thanks
I got the OCI in India and there is a reissuance fee of USD 25/- or equivalent .
All the info is under Ministry of Home affairs website .

Everything was done in less than a week in Delhi .
and apllying in the US was the right thing to do as I was in US .
Cheers
