I am new
yes, can somebody explain? what is chennai/bangalore/mohali etc is it like a ranji/county cricket? are people interested to watch? if so who will they support
Incase you are really ignorant, these are just names of local 20/20 teams for IPL.
On a related note, Ricky ponting was 'SOLD' for just $375000 (alomost a million less than symonds). The issue that most Indians dont realise is that THEY are ones who are finally going to pay for all these crazy prices by way of tickets sales, increased product prices, increased cable rates and all the related increases. Talk about inflation..
God bless India and the cricketers..

Please correct me ,my understanding is that these bids for each player was paid to the Indian Board by the big businesses ,not players themselves? What is Board going to pay for e.g to Dhoni whose Bid for 6 Cro fell in the kitty of Indian Board.
Yes, your understanding is right. The board initially contracted the individual players for 3 years and these contracted players are only eligible for selection and bidding. I look at this as modern form of slavery for entertainment purposes, only that the 'slaves' also stand to gain monetarily from this show. Not much different than what exists in developed countries for other sports. This will give rise to newer service industry of 'sports agents' (dalals) in India, though it already exists currently, but this will take it to a new level.
Hold on to your money..there is lot more in store.

What is the the criteria behind the city selection?
Big Cities? Then why not Ahmedabad? It is way bigger than many of the teams?
Because of famous Cricketers? Then why not Baroda? Why Jaipur?
