Hello princess2,
I am an forgein trained architect living in Onatario for around 6 years.
Architecture is in a recession in Canada. Licensing requirements witll shave atleast 3-5 years and lots of money. Even if you become an Architect after all this you will still face lot of barriers based on the country of origin.
You can work in Architect firms without a licence. You will be known as an Architectural Technologist. The ability to rise within the firm will be based on your skills/ luck/ being at the right place at the right time. It will also be very hard for you to get a job in the Architetcure field without a Canadian experience or 3D design / rendering skills / design skills. This is with special reference to Ontario. IMO, Alberta is the best place if you decide to come anyway. They are having a booming economy which is resulting in many buildings being built and they are recruiting big time.
However, please note that this is just one failed architects view. You might want to ask as many people as you can.
All the best.
Where are you located right now?
PM me for any other details

Hi Princess 2,

If you are ready to slightly deviate from the core of architecture, you may find openings. For example, you can become a construction estimator by taking the part-time cources at George Brown College. The certification is shorter and cheaper and finding a job as an estimator is easier than an architect. You can get a Home inspection certification from the same place and you will be qualified.
Another route is get a job at Lowe's, Homedepot, Ikea or Rona as a Kitchen designer, plumbing associate or a building materials associate. When you are part-time with these guys (which is what they give you initially), you can do the part-time cources that I have noted above. If you stick there longer, then you should work your way to becoming fulltime. These retailers buy a lot of stuff from building material suppliers which are big companies with whom you will be interacting constantly as part of your job. Develop a raport with them and you'll never know a new avenue might open for you and you won't be thinking about Architecture anymore. TK is right. The certification process is very laboreous and you have to start from scratch. Since you are already starting from scratch anyways, why dont you try to pursue something related or tangential to Architecture. Because, it all boils down to wheather you are making a decent living or not nomatter which career you are in.
Its not that I want to discourage you from pursuing Architecture, but I was encouraging you to think out of the box. PM me for any questions.

All the best.
