Baked veggies my way:
I use brocolli green beans capsicum carrots and add little salt, black pepper and sprinkle sugar and just a touch of water and put that in microwave for 3-4 minutes. You can use honey instead of sugar or just avoid altogether.
I generally prepare soup, Garlic bread and these baked veggies for a good meal. For kids i prepare Cheese Macroni( just boil macroni and add milk, butter and powdered cheese that i got from bulk barn)..but don't go for it youself if trying to loose weight . If you like non veg...just keep some chicken for marination in morning or any time and just put it in oven when u get back home..keep checking it and u can have roasted chicken ready for dinner alingwith veggies etc.
All the best!
1) I use a dishwasher most days. Even with the two of us, it fills up every day or second day. Sometimes I'll wash them by hand if there are just a few dishes, while making tea or something (or waiting for toast etc).
2) If both of you are working full time, its really hard (without stressing yourself) to expect that there are three fresh cooked indian meals a day !! I try to make daal most weekday evenings (but I just throw it all into a pressure cooker.). Either I make roti's fresh or if there is no time/if I have a class in the evening, we'll just use the PC rotis.. Weekends I try to cook at least 1-2 dishes that will last for the next 1-2 days. Im lucky as hubby enjoys cooking (which I find so-so..) so he likes to cook half the time..and I cook half the time.
Lunches are easy - I take salads (u can buy precut salad bags from superstore) and hubby likes subways
We like fresh too, but its not a big deal. .

Aashu,
Your situation is much better. I used to wake up at 6:30 pm and finish washing off the last utensil at 11:00 pm (This was when I was living in Toronto).
I read through your schedule and found that you waste some time in the morning by preparing Subji and Roti. The alternatinbe would be to prepare some fresh food at the night time and then heat it up in the morning. I know that children can be fussy and will refuse to eat tasteless food but you have to think of other alternatives. Being a vegetarian you could try (for morning and halthy choices for your son and can be prepared in very less time):
1. Macroni and cheese in the morning
2. Burger (with just the bun, youghurt and some cucumber / tomato)
3. Dosa / Idly (preparing this is the easiest. for 4 cups of rice use 1 cup of Urud dal. Saok in the morning. At evening time, put it in the mixie. Add salt and keep it in the cupboard. The next day morning it is ready.) Serve with previous day's sambar or Potato subji. Very cheap , healthy and convient. You can also have this for your dinner
4. Cereal for your child
5. Waffle (10 for a $ at most stores). Just sprinkle water, heat it in the microwave and serve with Honey / maple syrup/ your fav. subji.
Just today I bought 24 corns for $2 at the farmers market and I had the same for lunch and dinner. I Just steamed it and it was very tasty and isalso very healthy.
The steamer that I use has a bowl at the bottom for pouring water and then in a bowl above (all plastic), I cut and keep the veggies. After it is cooked , just add salt / pepper/ balsamic viniger / lime juice. I eat it just like that (with our frying after wards to save time and also being healthy).
If you prepare food daily, you will end up wasting time. It is yoru choice. Do you want fresh food every day or do you want to spend that time with your family?
There are tons of people on CD who prepare and sell fresh Roti's, Most of them are Gujju's living in Kipling/ Albion flats. I am sure that some of them would have PM'ed you by now upon seeing the thread. You have no idea as to how many people go through each thread of Cd though many donot post anything. The last time I checked (2 years back), they sold 30 for $9. Of course, if you will be a regular buyer you can negotiate a suitable price.
Again as you said, cooking is not the only time waste in Canada. We also have vacuming, cleaning the toilets, utensiles, laundry, grocery shopping (for deals we have to go from Shop to shop), fridge / kitchen cleaning, teaching kids etc... That also consumes a lot of time
Hope this helps
Peace
