Remember the phrase "catch'em young"? That's what China does.
I saw a documentary last year, on BBC I believe, where they showed how the Chinese kids were training for the olympics. It was a full time job. They stayed in dorms and trained all day. Dedication and the goal to get a medal and make the country proud.

Exaaaaccccctly my point, there is corruption and poverty in China. There isn't freedom of press etc.., And we know that it is nearly impossible for a sportsman to shine under pressure.
Encouragement is quite needed to put strong perseverance.

Sure, the government in India is corrupt and gets in the way. But to say that the govt. is the main reason why India does not win more medals at the olympics is being complacent at best.
Becoming world class atheletes requires a lot more than just financial support, it requires unrelenting drive, big ambition and above all, superhuman perseverence. How about we forget about the govt. for a while and look at the athletic inclination of the nation as a whole (i.e. outside of cricket)? After all, there are athletes from poorer countries with govts. much worse that do better than India in the olympics.

Say what you will, the Chinese are a tight bunch of very proud people. They are proud of who they are, what they can do and they have proven it. They are not afraid to speak up even if the other person doesn't understand a thing. Sometimes, the way they confidently speak, they can make you feel dumb with their incoherent, undecipherable, garbled "English".
Even the communist government is prepared to undergo changes and they have demostrated that with their economic policies and growth.
India's "unity in diversity" is a nice little antiquated quote and that's it. East doesn't like west, north doesn't like south, south doesn't like south-east...I mean it never ends and each one doesn't want to climb up the ladder by his/her own merit but by pulling the other down. We don't even have to blame the government. Even if you take the much revered sport of cricket, the selectors are forced to make sure they don't offend people by selecting players from all parts of India such that the nation is well represented. That's the irony that has spelled India's doom.
All this IMO.

I was replying to your Question "where the hell all our energy get sucked?" - in complaining and blaming. Nobody wants to standup, deliver and be responsible.
... I look at it this way. We don't treat Sports a Career as yet. It is still a leisure activity. So many Indians have immigrated to so called Sports Rich Country but still you don't hear Indian Name Often. Raj Bhavsar is the only Indian Name in Gymnastics that I have heard. He got Bronze in Team event. No Swimmer, No Track-n-Field, No Water Sport, List is Long.
You draw conclusion.
In India, Cricket is the only Sports that parents are looking forward to. Now with multiple Employers available - you'll see even more cricketers. Tennis is another good option.

How many desis here, for example are pruning their little ones to become world class athletes? How many parents rather their kids concentrate more on education than spend time practicing at the local hockey arena? (just as an example)
