Hi,
I am in India working with an IT company and having Experience of 7 Years in Java and QA. Out of this I have worked for 2 years at client location in USA. I liked quality of life there and now I am looking to settle in Canada. Which route you people suggest. Apply for PR and wait for 6 more years or look for WP. I personally feel WP is good as it is fastest way to enter Canada. But I am not sure about IT scenario in Canada and if some Canadian firm will like to hire me while I am in India. Please guide me.
If you like USA, please go to USA. Why do you want to settle in Canada? Don't worry it was more of a rhetorical question. Fair number of desi junta here are in the same boat
I came to Canada through an employer sponsored work permit, worked for two years and applied for my immigration which I got in 2.5 months. So did many other colleagues who came with me at that time. I am talking 10 years back. It was a desi employer that needed resources for his projects here.
Now, the situation is a bit different. You, being closer to the action should know that programmer jobs from the US/Canada are moving to India. having worked in 4 companies for the past 10 years, I have seen many of my colleagues lose their jobs because of this. Given this, I am not aware of many employers that will sponsor your work permit. You could have applied for jobs while you were in the USA, no? Might have had a better chance given the proximity...
There is no harm in trying. You can visit Canadian job boards and sites like Monster, Workopolis, HotJobs and find out.

Apply for a Canadian PR and H1 simultaneously . If your H1 matures in a GC in next 6 years stay in the US . If not , your PR would be processed by then , come here .
Work permit based immigration is always much quicker than regular application.

Fido.
If you apply for PR from USA, it will take 1 to 1.5 years only. (while it is taking 6 years from India). I think H1 form USA is easy to get it in compare of work permit of Canada.
What I'll suggest is try for H1B of USA and work permit in Canada. If you get H1B, apply for PR from USA. [You must have 1 year valid visa to stay in USA from the date of your application of PR]
If it is hard to get H1B for you, you can apply for PR in india.

Funny, no one seems to be telling you about the IT Jobs here in Canada. The market is in a very bad condition, and one should stick to their jobs till the situation improves. This is happening all over the world and Canada is also in the same boat.
I am into IT too QA and Systems and Network Administration, and I got laid off because of company facing a financial crench. I yet have to get hold of a good job to survive. I am doing my best to get one, but never know when I am going to get one or if I would have to go on the cash jobs.
So forget about WP or Immigration, right now India is doing much better than Canada in economy state. Stick to your job till it lasts.
If still you are in the mood of struggling to stabilize here, check out the Manitoba PNP Programme, it gets people here on Immigration in 18 to 24 months only, but the clause is till your citizenship of Canada you got to stick to the province.
Hi shaileshjkumar,
Let me know what you have done in Network Admin and also as a QA.
