Greetings all,

Please help me in choosing a digital camera.
The final choice is between the Sony Cybershot (8.1 MP, 10X Zoom) and the Canon PowerShot (9.1 MP, 10X Zoom).
The Sony is available for $190 and the Canon at $280.
Included with the Canon is a leather case (no big deal, but whatever).

I have researched both cameras and read extensive reviews (both technical as well as customer) and am not able to decide conclusively.
Both are neck-and-neck in terms of ratings from reviewers.

The Canon uses AA batteries so it's portable and the Sony has a special battery.
Sony also has special card type which is more expensive than the SD card that Canon uses.
My current camera is also an older model of Sony Cybershot, which I have been using for over 5 years now and it has been flawless but I don't want that to bias my decision.
The Sony is quite a bit cheaper, however, Canon seems to have the slightest bit of edge in technical and consumer reviews.

So please share your opinions and experience.

Thanks

Canon had had the upper in terms of picture quality and fuctioning of digital cameras.

However, with the technology changing so fast, it makes sense to limit your investment to minimum. You will be upgrading within the next 2-3 years.

The battery and memory card are something you need to look at - according to your comfort level. If outdoors is your primary activity with the camera, I believe Canon takes the cake.

Good luck and hope you will upload latest pics very soon.

I would try and keep away from moels that use the AA batteries. I have a Fuji which uses the AA batteries. I use rechargable ones but I always have to carry a spare set around.

Having said that, I've heard good reviews (from close family members) about Canon

Could you post the models #'s of the ones you're looking at.

Yes, my existing Sony also uses AA batteries and I have rechargeable NiMH ones and have 2 spare sets.

To me its always Canon ...

My friend has DSC-HC10. Two things that I didn't like most -
1. Indoor in Low light, it takes some time to Focus and even stays out-of-focus
2. May not be big deal but it is all-plastic body
