After 26/11 and Sathyam fiasco, the English News TV Channels in India did not have anything to grind. An isolated incident in a Mangalore pub came as a big relief. For the past one week all these English News TV channels, acting as mouthpiece for night life industry are crying hoarse on “Pub Culture” and “Moral Policing”.
The whole thing on “Pub Culture” started with some belonging to a Hindu religious group barging into a pub in Mangalore and chasing away some girls who were drinking there. We know something about Indian culture, Western culture, Tamil culture, Kannada culture etc. But we have never heard of “Pub” culture. We can safely say less than one percent of the people are frequenting pubs in India. For the the salaried class, to run the monthly budget without borrowing after 20th of any month is itself a big challenge. Where is the thought for frequenting pubs and go on a drinking spree? We know “Varavu Ettana, Selavu Pathana, Adhigam Rendana, kadaisiyil thundhana”.
The english news channels have gone to town about “moral policing”, which again is another confusing phrase. We know any society needs “morals”, which is about high standards of good behaviour. We also need police to maintain law and order But add these two, the english news media has come up with a crime which is worse than rape and murder put together.
For us, we teach even alphabet to children with rhymes like “Aram seya virumbu, Aaruvadhu Sinam” etc. We are very conscious about not living Kandadhey Kaatchi, Kondadhey Kolam life style. This K4 is the reason behind all troubles that USA is facing now. It is unfortunate that our youth should end up copying this lifestyle and the english news media promoting the same for whatever reasons.

Not sure if I got your point correctly...
There are at least two aspects to the incident. First of all, Mangalore has lot of private engg and medical colleges where kids are send by parents (mostly keralites) who can afford to pay the high fees. As such, these kids have surplus money and enjoy pub nights, disco's etc. (or pub culture as they call it). Local youth also joins this group.
Secondly, do I want my kids to live a life like that? No... But am I 100% sure that they will listen to me on a topic like this? No again... If they do go to a pub, do I want them to be beaten up by some political goons who has nothing sensible to do in life? Definitely NO.
Why did you address this post to "My Tamilian Brethren" , when this incident happened in Karnataka on a website owned by a Gujarati based in Canada
Duplicate post
Why do you say 'Sathyam' and not Satyam ? By the same reason should it be 'Thamilian' brethren ...

Fido.
The reason for not addressing to all is that though it was an isolated incident that ocurred in Karnataka it was blown out of proportion by the english news media all over India. Since I am resident in Tamil Nadu, I wish I got their view points on the same. Also I was unable to give the exact translation for the Thamizh idioms and phrases which I mentioned there.
What is suitable for one country and in one region may not be the same in a different country. In India to show ourselves westernized and educated, we copy their style of dressing, cover ourselves from neck to toe (i.e., only the men), whereas the same foreigners visiting our country move about with shorts, t-shirt and shoes without socks.
Lesser the people keeping indoors during the night hours, easier it will be for the police to keep law and order. The police to population ratio in India is very low. There was this lady who got shot in the wee hours in Delhi because she refused to serve liquor to a boy from a rich family. The whole police machinery and judiciary had to run behind this case for several years at the cost of the poor tax payer's money. Of course, the english news media all lapped it up. The government does not take care of teens education or unemployment, the family does. The english news channels are getting worse by the hour. Crass commercialization is their hidden agenda.
