I v come to Toronto few days ago and looking for job. Commerce Graduate, no professional qualifications but good English. Age 33. What types of jobs should I look for. Is Fork Lift Job OK (I know how to drive it). Or can I get some bigger machine training in construction field or do I have any chances of white collar jobs like in finance, accounts or store till etc. Please advise.

I believe you need a certificate to drive the forklift. You can take some classes and get the certificate. I do not know how strenuous that job is. I think to operate any heavy machinery, you will need some kind of training/certificate/licence. There are some training programs run by federal/provincial government to train people, but I believe those programs are only for people on EI.

You can try your luck in finance/accounts. Go to those employment agencies (There used to be a bunch of them near square one), hand in your resume, and ask if they would test you on office software (Basic keyboarding/numeric skills, word, excel, power point - very easy test). Then depending upon requirement, they can give you temporary assignments, which can help gain experience.

However, it is easier said than done. The competition can be tough, as there can be lots of people with similar skills as yours. Also, with current recession, temp. jobs may not be readily available

Store till jobs - are they really white collar? Also, they are physically demanding.

Also try your luck with Pizza stores/McDonalds and similar places.

If you are physically fit and really interested to make career in forklift , go to Alberta (Fort Mc.), get forklift ticket (certificate), you will get 20 to 30 per hour (depending on capacity)

Join Canadian University and do Masters of commerce. Meanwhile do part time jobs.

You need a licence to operate a forklift. If you can invest around two plus years in CMA(certified management accountant) program, your prospects will improve. This qualification is equivalent to ICWAI of India and I believe they can sign off a balance sheet. But you'll have to work those two years in accounting/audit field to pass and get certified.

That is a pretty cursory advice. You need quite a substantial amount of money to do the masters program. (University fee + living expenses) Also, what are the job prospects after a Canadian MCom degree

I believe the CGA/CMA route is also quite lengthy and expensive. The advertisements that they put up are quite alluring. But I attended their sessions and found out that being a CGA/CMA is not that easy
