Hi all,
I have received the oath letter for my citizenship.
But I also have plan to go to India for 2 months 2 days after the date of the oath.
so one option is to get the oath postponed.
The other option is to do the oath and then try to get everything done within 2 days.
please tell me whether this is possible or not.
for the plan to work, this is what I will have to do :
1. Take the oath (8:00 am)
2. Apply for Canadian Passport using the 24-hr. urgent service $75 (10:00 am)
3. Next morning, collect passport by 10:00 am
4. Apply emergency India visa by 11:00 am
5. Collect passport back from Indian consulate by 4:00 pm
6. Travel next day
I already have my tickets so I can prove urgent travel for both Cdn passport and India visa.
my question is whether this plan is doable or not.
does everything happen as predicted like do they actually give passport within 24 hrs. and Indian embassy gives visa same day?
You might not be able to get the passport within 24 hours. May be or may be not, because it is upto the passport officer's discretion whether it is an emergency or not. (I am having a first hand experience). Having said this, they have a 48 hr service for $35 (as of 2 years back) which is easily possible. You might want this as your plan B.
I do not know about the Indian visa timeline.

It is risky to buy a ticket without having your passport. What if they do not get convinced? Buy it if you are willing to take chances.
The service time seems to have changed. Two years back it was 48 hours guaranteed! Ask them in person, they will tell you ifthey can do it in 48 hours.

Is it guaranteed to be within 48 hrs?
But that still cuts it too close because then I will have to get passport and Indian visa on the same date, which is the last working day before my travel date.
Same day Indian visa can only be applied between 9:00 am and 11:00 am.
coming back to the urgent service, if I have tickets to prove travel date and a valid reason will they not accept it and give me passport within 24 hrs?
what can I do to convince them?
If you are coming back for sure, then your oath can wait (if you have finalized all your travel arrangements).

I would also endorse Raj Canada's views.
Instead of doing all this hassle and spending extra money, just delay the oath and enjoy your trip to India.
